Why is bowling on espn at noon on a major football day and pool cannot be on ever?

I think people may be reading too much into the fact that pool isn't televised as much as it was 10, 20 or even 30 years or more ago. It's not so much that pool was wildly popular back then and isn't now. It's more about how the TV business has changed.

30 years ago you had Wide World of Sports...if you wanted to watch sports, that was your choice. The other 2 networks were playing a rerun of the movie Heidi and a Here's Lucy episode. You watched it because it was on. You saw a lot of pool but you also saw a lot of log rolling, ski jumping, curling, and waterskiing. I think it was mostly that they had you by the short hairs and showed whatever was cheapest to produce and air that wouldn't cause you to turn it off.

Today is a very different business environment and pool just doesn't fit the formula that well. Pool didn't change, the TV business changed.

Bingo. Your absolutely right , everyone watched wide world of sports by far the most viewed sports show and if pool was on everyone saw it ,,
Since ESPN's poll has pool at number 59 in difficulty its a wonder it ever gets on

Because pro bowling is action packed and intense. Much like pro Curling. Maybe pool needs more fist pumping and high fives.:D

We can't have that, it's frowned upon, lol. They don't like fist pumping of Earl, Archer, Shuff, Alex, Busty, Melling, Dechaine, and others.

Today's players want to clean it up, lol, make it boring and robotic with the likes of Mika, Thorsten, DAZ, Ralf, Kiamco, Niels etc.

It's ****ing bullshit!!! I put up $$ (minor) for the Efren vs. Earl challenge match. Didn't want to be a hypocrite. (stop waiting to get the youtube for free people)
Earl is right. Pro pool players should at LEAST be making as much as golfers. $153,000 for SVB. The top Pro last year is a friggin' disgrace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK maybe you didn't make over $100k BUT the top golf pro was waaaay over $1Million. And what really sucks is the 100th ranked golf pro made waaay more than SVB.
Something is terribly wrong!

I just saw the venue for the next Mosconi Cup.
Holy CRAP!!!!!!
I wish we had that. London in 2014?? Maybe.
LV in 2015? Definitely!!!!

If they wore hats turned sideways pants on the ground . Short pants and tee shirts
And behaved like too many pool players they would
Not be on TV either. Just the reason like it or not
The women are on TV for the same reason they
Dress nice keep their mouth shout don't drop the f bomb
On national TV( Mosconi Cup and have to have
Their mic taken off ) and are professional. Which one of
Pool player do you want your daughter coming
Home with . It is a short list starting with The likes
Of the Tommy Kennedy's,Tony Robles and a few others

Pool is boring to watch on tv. The audience has to sit there like they are in church and can only clap and cheer when they are told to do so. If the audience/ fans were able to cheer like they do in real sporting events, pool maybe more tolerable to watch. If real athletes can play there respective games with fans cheering then on, why cant pool players do the same.

Worst yet, the lame commentators act like every shot took years and years of playing to make. Pool is not a difficult game to get good at, just like bowling. To be the best and to be consistently be one of the best is difficult , everyone knows that. And clapping after every routine shot is just embarrassing.

Accu stats is the best thing going for pool. They just need their own station. plenty of cable stations to choose from. They just need some sponsorship. It's amazing that some of the wealthier pool fans/players/entrepenures haven't done this with accustats.

Who exactly are you upset with? The government?... the Jews?.... the Oil Companies?.... who?

Seriously...tell me....who??????

Pool isn't golf. Arnold Palmer hasn't played in 30 years and made 20 or 30 million last year putting his name on iced tea/lemonade concoctions and golf umbrellas. A top pro golfer doesn't make a million a year...he makes that in a good week. What is all this "not fair" BS?

We all cut our own deal in life...golfers cut better deals.

Earl obviously needs to put the pipe down .. Pool is not even in the same planet as golf on any level and if Shane's making as much as the 100th golfer I would say he's doing pretty good

To be honest, he may not make what the 100th players caddy makes.

pool on tv isnt a game the audience can relate to. they changed pool rules for tv and it isnt exciting, just different than everyone else has ever played it.

average fun players dont want to see players running racks and playing ball in hand. and having the break determine who wins the game usually.

the pro players are not fun and seem to the public as a bunch of whiners and lowlifes. who would a big company want to sponsor in that crew.

Don't quote "not fair" when I never said that.

Sad commentary about Shane.

I can think of one reason for sure,if this is still the case.

Do you know who OWNS the Professional Bowlers Assosciation?

It may have changed hands since, but at one time the PBA was bought and re-organized by the same guy that owns the Seattle Seahawks, former Microsoft partner/multi-billionaire Paul Allen. Tommy D.

With all due respect for the game I love, I have to wonder how much truth there is in that.

No. Your incorrect. Golfers make money because of organized tours. Massive sponsorships from EVERY manufacturer, retailer, golf courses and every public mass player buying from those retailers, manufacturers and playing on those golf courses. Also pay good chunks of money to attend an event.

Just cause your good or have mastered something doesn't mean you should be paid for it.

Who? SVB for one.
Why no ball in hand? Ummm. the "fun" players have never been taught correctly?
4 strikes in baseball?
No traveling in basketball?
What if ^^^these were just "bar" / "fun" rules. Spare me.
Low life's to you maybe. You must be so far above all.

As far as golfers vs pool players making money it goes like this.

Back in the mid-90's,Johnny Archer had the biggest year ever as far as pro tournament earnings,at 175k or something close.

The 135th ranked golfer, the guy that had never won a tournament and BARELY kept his PGA card made 350k.

This was before Tiger. Now,even the guys that barely keep their cards from year to year make over a million dollars, from tournaments ALONE. Tommy D.
