Why is bowling on espn at noon on a major football day and pool cannot be on ever?

No. Your incorrect. Golfers make money because of organized tours. Massive sponsorships from EVERY manufacturer, retailer, golf courses and every public mass player buying from those retailers, manufacturers and playing on those golf courses. Also pay good chunks of money to attend an event.

Just cause your good or have mastered something doesn't mean you should be paid for it.

Also most golfers like watching the PGA Tour and have favorite players etc. With pool players that isn't the case, and I've never understood why because I've always liked watching pros. If anyone ever figures that out then pro pool's fortunes will change. Also regarding bowling I think some rich Microsoft guy bought it as a pet project.

Weekend golfers support the sport too.
Pool is lacking even that.
They Pro's have made mistakes, sure. But pool on TV is every bit as exciting as golf to a real player.
I know many golfers who can't stand to watch golf on TV.
Nighty night from the east coast!!

Living in the southwest, The weather is un-bearable for a few weeks at best and not even consecutive days in a row. Golf is the perfect sport to play here. Your outdoors, nice weather, wearing fashionable golf attire, having a few drinks in the club house, on the course and again drinks with lunch back at the club house etc, golfing with friends. Also, lots of women play golf!! Golfing is just as much a social event as it is a sport to be played. No pool room can be compared to an outdoor social event. Most people play golf in groups of 4.

Also, golf has pro leagues around the country, that players can make six figures as well as potentially leading players getting PGA tour cards as well. Those other tours can be very lucrative to a really good player. Pool tours in the US are not even in existence. Just ask any pro bowler how hard it is to make money.

As far as pool is concerned (my opinion), its a social event for most people and a fun game to play. I just don't see it ever being a game/sport with a big following. It would have happen already. The Camel Pro tour was really the last shot at success ( on a mass scale).

Blah Blah Blah.....thanks for reading the long winded epilog...:boring2:

I agree. However the golf announcers don't over exaggerate each and every shot. They just assume you already know how to play and just calls the action while throwing in a few tips here in there. Pool (ESPN only) is just soooo exhausting to listen to. I would just prefer no commentary.

Like I always say, the bigger the field of play, the bigger the crowds, etc....

That is my opinion as well. It's safe to say we all love pool, or we wouldn't be here having this conversation.....but to me, its more the socializing and camaraderie that go with it....you know, good friends, a few beers, joking/horsing around, hitting pool balls, and some small stakes gambling..... Even if I had the talent, I really have no desire to play pool professionally, because then it would no longer be a hobby and a fun release....but to do it in an attempt to make a living>? No way....I'll stick with what's stable....and love the game in my own way.

Golf bores me to tears, I think George Carlin put it best..... I'd rather watch flies f*ck than watch golf on TV....the same with bowling....and I'm a horrible bowler on top of that, so that's a game I don't even enjoy playing.

Comparing pool on TV to that of NFL, that's just insane....the intensity of a football game is something that a pool match could never even come close to replicating, or yes, we'd have a 'pool season' and a 'billiard bowl' every year like we do football.

Strong statement. No doubt a lot of really talented players (after several years) end up coming to this conclusion, after looking at the "Pro" pool landscape..

I guess its like running on a treadmill. You can really get into great shape, but you end up not going anywhere.

This could be another problem and brings up pretty much a summary of american attitudes toward sports in general (IMHO) ..I know I'll get bashed for this...dedication and support only when it's convenient or when it "matters" Oh, it's football season, put on the jersey honey , the game is on...oh, it's baseball season, put on your new hat honey, the game is on(by the way, did you pack up those football jerseys until next season like i asked?) oh, it's basketball season, ...need I go on?...This country has no real passion for sport unless it's in season!! It's like it's all forgotten until next year and then all of the talk starts up all over again....where was that talk after the super bowl? or the world series? or whatever happens in Basketball? College bowl games? Stanley Cup? ESPN analysts talk about this stuff all year because they get paid to do so.

If you want to support pool, do it...but don't do it when it suits you or the same state that we believe pool is now in, will remain. If anyone chose to watch football over the pool broadcast then they can't complain when ESPN says " EH, we didn't get very good ratings as usual, maybe we'll show more bowling or women's basketball instead"....
