Why isn't pool in the olympics?

Olympic athletes are supported and funded by grants from their receptive government, a lot of work and money is spent on athletes for best chance for the gold; Unfortunately pool has the luck factor no matter how hard you practice (at pro level), which is a draw back to the Olympic competition, which is mainly endurance, and skill that plays big part in almost all games. Who knows it might make it one day.

Pool has "the luck factor" as you say but at least it doesn't have the "beauty pageant" factor that many of the so called sports have with subjective judging determining the winner.

Yes you sunk the 9 ball but the judges didn't care for your stance and stroke.

Your score is 9.417, just out of the medals.

There is no doubt, some judges will tend to favor their home girl or boy, cannot avoid it. But the post is about pool inclusion/exclusion in the Olympics and IMO pool std games does not fit the Olympics games style.

... I think you'd see 3 Cushion Billiards long before pool or snooker (and snooker long before pool).
I don't think so. No single discipline has wide enough international participation on its own to get in. I think that's the main reason the WCBS was formed -- for a long time the UMB was trying on its own.

Here's something I found interesting whilst watching a Curling match in the Winter Olympics.

They have no official / referee! The teams question and make their own calls on fouls. They have adopted a 'Gentleman's Game' approach. AND it works; otherwise the Olympic board would kick them into touch...

COMEDY; Can you imagine what would happen on international TV if Pool was in the Olympics and players called (or not called) their own fouls! :rotflmao::bash::rotflmao1:

Though any measurements that need to be taken are done by an official who makes the call.

What I do find surprising though is that I've yet to see a "foul" in curling. What with all those rocks lying around, the sweepers sliding up the slippery ice with the focus on their moving rock and stepping between rocks when they get near the house, I am amazed that I've yet to see one accidentally bumped, tripped over, or inadvertently touched while brushing.

Don't even know what the remedy is if a rock is moved because I've never seen it happen. Is the rock replaced as agreed, does the offending team lose a turn or a point...?

Who knows or cares what the rules of Curling are; I don't. But the fact remains, that all the teams do know the rules! And don't contest them during play...

The players for sure all know the rules and follow them even if it goes against them. there is officials there that chart the positions of stones incase they need to be replaced and officials to handle any discrepancies that come up but the players police them selves an if they touch a stone they admit it and deal with it and it does happen quite often. Some of the other rules that were policed by officials like not letting go of the stone before the hog line have moved to electronic sensors in the rocks and you know right away because you get a green light if good or red light on the handle if bad.

So Basically Mr. Peterboy; You've written that Curling is a highly professional sport that is monitored and officiated by competent referees and proven use of digital technology!!!!

Thank you for the education because I know personally I was ignorant to all of this.

I conclude that the world game of pool is just as ignorant (as myself) to the professionalism of other sports and until we become mature in our worldy approach; Pool will not see the light of day at the Olympics.

Don't quote me on this, but I think the first available year of Olympic consideration for a sport like pool will become available in 2032.
Now would be a good time to drop the politics and for the pool community to pull together as one

Pool is a contest of a person against the table rather then the opponent. Also, it is not much fun for these who don't understand it and it is complex. Swimming suit, bikini pool may work for the general public as long as the men don't try it. I think Minnesota Fats would agree, but on the other hand, he would appear in his trunks and talk about it. Would be rather entertaining and he could have won gold.

On one level I agree, but on another level archery and target shooting sports are Olympic events which seem to be on the same level of required athleticism as billiards.

MARKSMANSHIP is an Olympic sport, and there is a bit of athleticism involved. You do have to be in shape for shooting and the same thing with Archery.

Pool is associated with GAMBLING so why would you want to promote gambling?

I think the REAL QUESTION IS - How would the people be chosen? How would you really find THE BEST in each country? Would there be try-outs?

But imagine..... the best player in the world would have a GOLD MEDAL..... worth more than any bragging rights or amount of money won gambling on a SINGLE GAME.
