Why music players are banned in most tourneys?

Well for one mis communication between players. Or how about if your music is on too loud your opponent can hear it, especially if it's really quiet in the tournament room. That is soo soo annoying when that happens.

My ears would be bleeding if you could hear it. This has really happened to you? Again if communication is an issue it's the player not the headphones IMO.

Hmm I didn't realize I was the one complaining in this discussion. I was commenting on your complaint against your teammates being disinterested in your match.

Complaining was probably the wrong word.

Commenting fits better.

Some headphones or ear buds or whatever they are called if turned up pretty loud you can hear the music easily standing a few feet away. So the player with the music could get the line on all of his opponents. Not the line on how they play but the line on what music they hate the most. lol!

Pretty simple 1. Play your opponents least favorite music that makes him wanna go head first into a wall.

2. Turn it up really loud so he can listen.

With that said anybody who runs a tournament and allows ipods during matches is a stone cold retard.

Rap music will make me leave a place and has after driving 300 miles to a tournament. I have music just in case this happens again even though I can't play as good with it on. I guess I could try plugs though. It doesn't bother me in the least if someone uses them though.

What Donnie is saying about the loud ear buds is true. I watched a match between Hennessey and Mika at the DCC about four years ago. Mika had to get the ref because John's ear buds were too loud. I don't know what kind they were but you definitely could hear them. This is an instance of inappropriate ear bud use that I agree with.

These Are Great!

The ones I like the best are called yurbuds. I have really small ear canals, and it was hard to keep the ones that came with the ipod I bought from falling out. They also have the best sound. They lock in your ears, and you can do back flips, and they won't come out.

Some people who suffer from a medical condition called,Tinnitus may show up with a Physician note say they need those ear phones, as they act as a medical device. Soft music is a sound that have how to be a therap for some patients who suffer from Tinnitus. Would love to see the reprocussion of baring someone from wearing ear phones who has a note say they are a medical nessessity.

Saw this on Facebook this morning, and in regards to the social decay topic discussed earlier, thought it was quite apropos for this thread! :D

Why ear plugs?

Thanks for all the posts. I had an opinion when I started reading this thread.
The more I read, the softer my opinion got. I was lucky enough to be taught
by 'old school' oldtimers just as the game of snooker was
being ushered out of most poolhalls. They spent a lot of time with me
educating me both as a 'striker' and 'non striker' in a private club
environment. Both held great importance to them and that's what
they passed on to me.
Then I was introduced to league play; bar pool; tournaments; etc.
It was painful making the transition!! Dress codes; sharking; loud
music; opponents and passersby in my sight lines; waitstaff talking
to me when I'm down on my shot... OMG! It was quit or deal with it!
I may have started wearing earplugs if I had been associating with
players who did and who had success. I pride myself on my
sportsmanship (I think it comes from my love of the game and my
desire to see it executed in its highest form). Some extremely good
players have all told me the same thing.. "figure out how to channel
your emotions and make peace with your surroundings"; don't blame
others for 'why I lost or didn't perform well' I see very clearly now
that the 'ear buds' topic is something I can blame instead of working
on my self discipline and focus. I think I will find a place to practice
now with
the worst conditions; most noise and distractions... everything else
should be a piece of cake!

Lo

I don't get bent out of shape about it either, although it does frustrate me on a much larger level than a stupid set of headphones.

It's the general decay of our societies moral fiber. Its the fact that what was once common courtesy is now nonexistent and as exemplified by these very posts, not even understood as such.

Not only this topic but a hundred other examples of this exist today. Any one of them seem insignificant on their own merit, but as a whole they are shameful and frustrating to see.

Its everything from the pants hanging off your ass, to pulling up to a neighbors house in your car blaring music and parking the wrong way on the street and beeping your horn to call your friend out.

Its everything from not granting way in a shopping mall for a mother and her children to pass your path as you both walk in different directions by each other and not give it even inkling of thought, to loud swearing conversations in front of parents with their children in public places.

Its everything from slowing your walking pace in a crosswalk as you stop traffic while you walk across the street, to yapping on the cell phone while you drive and cut off another driver as you indifferently drive along.

Its everything from giving a 10 year old an iPhone account, to an 8 O'clock bedtime for young kids, rather than irresponsibly allowing them to stay up till 10 or 11 watching garbage sex or violence filled television shows.

I can certainly go on and on, but ironically there is no point to doing so since these lost courtesies are multiple generations past now and most don't even know what the hell I'm talking about.

Its the frustration of thinking what the continued degradation of our society will look like in the next 20 years.

They don't get it cause they can't get it. It's no longer there to be gotten.

Its not just the headphones.

Excellent post!

"figure out how to channel
your emotions and make peace with your surroundings"

I like that.

Loud music, obnoxious people, and smoky environments have always had a negative effect on my game. And I have occasionally used ear buds to help block it out. Maybe it's just something I need to work on.

I find it funny that the posters preaching about respect and courtesy are making statements like the one above.

I haven't found any post by Donny in this thread where he preaches respect and courtesy. Other people have, but not him.

I went back and read his posts and your are correct. I thought he posted earlier but it was another member. I feel the quote I posted was thoughtless but the fact remains I was incorrect. I'm sorry Donny

Without a doubt, his post was thoughtless. I was not trying to defend what he said, just pointing out that he wasn't a hypocrite for saying it.

I'm not talking about some 1 day tournament somewhere where the jukebox is on. I'm talking about big/major tournaments where there is no jukebox. Now do you get it?

Now that you clarified it I get what you are saying. There should be a strict set of rules that professionals should follow. The surroundings for these events are controlled for the most part. For the other 99% of tournaments that take place in bars headphones should not be banned and TDs that allow them are not "retards".

Ya I can understand if there is no juke box at a major tournament then in ear music should not be allowed.

I'm not looking for praise here but as a combat veteran with PTSD the music I listen to really helps calms me down a few times I played pool in Iraq when mortar attacks happen.

I'm not trying to justify why I wear earbuds when plaint pool bu it is a medical condition that would allow me to wear earbuds during tournament play if I was to start having flash backs
