Why No Billiard Stables in US?

Why has know one in the US started a Billiard Stable like Puyat Sports and the Negros Billiard Stables in the Philippines? The players seem happy with the percentage they get and I guess the stable pays for travel, motels, and enrty fees.

Is it because pool can't get sponsers in the US? I would guess the stable would need some sponser backing. It just seems to me it would help the pros, give pro pool a shot in the arm, and be a win win deal for all involved. Maybe I don't know how the stables in the Philippines work. Anyone that knows how they work and why they won't work here...please jump in. Johnnyt
 
this would probably be expensive but...

What about a Pro league with a "stable" in major cities and scheduled matches. then you get the match ups everyone wants to see for example Archer vs Strickland 2 times a year guaranteed.

every team plays every other team twice, once at home once away. Then at the end of the season you have a seeded playoff for the top however many teams and finally a champion.

to give it an interesting twist you draw a slip from a hat right before the match that determines the game for that match. 9 ball, 8 ball, one pocket ect.
 
It works here in boxing, cage crap, and wrestling. Horse racing and Greyhound racing. Auto racing too...kind of. But there is a hell of a lot more money and sponsers in thse sports. Funny how the same huge corps sponser tournaments in a lot of other countries but not in America...and their American companies too. Johnnyt

Going back to the subject. Pool Stables in the Philippines is a philantrophic gesture. The percentage they get from the player's winning is not enough to cover their expenses.

They are just rich people who get the joy of having the best group of players. Those stable owners are mostly competing against themselves for social status.

Can you name the top 3 billiards stables in the Philippines and who their top players are? Who do you think has the best players today?
 
I'm sure there is a few rich pool lovers out there to have a few stables going for them. Hell, there were a few weeks in my life that I couls afford to do it. Charlie Williams already has one...and I'm sure he is making money on it. Johnnyt

Puyat: Efren and Bustamante
Negros: Lee Van Corteza
Bugsy: Alcano, Orcullo, Gabica, Gomez, Pena, De Luna, J. Bustamante
 
There are well paid Bridge teams competing for guys with big bucks - no big prize money, no TV coverage. Just the addiction.

Perhaps guys like Larry Ellison will get tired of thowing tens of millions at America Cup sailboats and take up a cheaper hobby, like the care and feeding of pool players:D

Puyat - Alex Pagulayan

Bugsy has the most break-out players.

The good thing about these stable sponsors is their business connections. They can easily find corporate sponsors for their players. That's probably where they get some of their income.

Look at how they promote pool in the Philippines, they'll think of every conceivable
way to make the game more interesting. Pairing up the best pool players with
georgeous models playing scotch doubles will surely get my attention every time.
Sad to say that pro pool here in the US is running on fumes, and with no immediate
relief in sight...
