Why Shanelle should be given a chance?

Johnnyt...I have to agree with you here about Shanelle's personality. She is as nice as she is beautiful. I have to disagree that she's been getting the best coaching though. I will GUARANTEE that if Shanelle had been coached by Randyg, Blackjack, Joe Tucker, or myself, she would be playing a LOT better than she is now (after 8 years). We have all produced national champions, through our various methods of teaching. I watched her technique very closely, last March in VF, and noticed several stroke flaws that could be easily corrected, which would improve her accuracy and overall level of play. With all due respect to CW, either he is just too busy with his other projects to give her much attention...OR, like many top players, he doesn't have the ability to diagnose and correct problems that keep players from performing up to their potential.

I think at least half the reason people are on her case is that she plays for CW and DP. I know two people that have met her and both said she was nice, polite, and fun to be around.

She has been playing now for at least 8 years with some of the best coaches and players teaching her. I hear she is only a C player in 9-ball at best. I have also heard that she plays carom/3 cushion well...about a B player. Like someone already on here, if she doesn't get better real quick she will just fade away in the world of billiards. JMO. I might be crazy, but IMHO:
Maybe a nationally televised Victoria secret pajama/under garment pool tournament. Bring Chanelle, and a few other of the hot WPBA stars. That I would love to see. Sponsors would line up to get there name on there. That is where you get that big pay day, SPONSORS, not entry fees.
Who cares if they can play great pool. Hell I watch SpongeBob all the time and I still cant figure out how they swim and build fires under the sea, or when they fall it is as if they were made of stone, etc...
To me fiction or non-fiction I dont care. Good entertainment, now that has my attention. They need to sell the sex appeal on WPBA. If I wanted two watch men play then I would watch men play. I really dont care two watch women that resemble men in drag with half the game of a man play.

I agree with you completely Blackjack.

There is no doubt that she is a beautiful girl. When I first started hearing about her, I heard that she was the number one player from Guam. Her sponsors have tried to pump her up as a great player, so as she doesn't match the performance, it lessens the impact and makes her more of a pool joke. So, it turn, it actually detracts from the game some. People have referenced Anna K. as an example and even from their remarks, she is kind of a joke to tennis.

Just remember, exceptional skill can bring as much notice as good looks...look at Tiger Woods.

karen looks just as good as her in those outfits she wears and is a top 3 player...so why no sponsorships for karen?

Have you been to the optometrist lately? :yikes:

i also dont see why everyone would be mad at her. that hate is misdirected, if she's playing pool and and bunch of random sponsors offer her money it really isnt her fault. what is she supposed to do lol? whether or not she should be getting these sponsorships is irrelevant, if u are mad, talk to the guys sponsoring her, dont take it out on her. i've seen enough ppl criticize her for being sponsored. i personally dont think her game is good enough to warrant sponsorship but i'm certainly not going to fault her for accepting some offers either. i think in most situations if someone offers u money to wear their logo, most people would probably do it.

Time for a lady to weigh in.

First, don't be dissing Karen. She is beautiful, those glasses don't do her justice, she uses them for pool only!

Second, I agree with Danktrees, Shanelle has got "IT". It is what the sponsor wants and what most consumers want. It's their money so they can sponsor who ever they choose.

Third, it makes me sad when people discuss someone they don't know and pick her apart. She seems nice and friendly and very lucky to belong to a small handful of marketable women who have sponsorship. She did play in the last spirit tour event and also the BAAT in the last few months. She is young, lets give her a chance to become a world class poolplayer.

Lastly, thanks Blackjack for including me in a list of very good Florida players, you made this old girl smile today!

To my knowledge, Shanelle has not competed on the Ladies Spirit Tour, KBP, or Bay Area Amateur Tour. She should be competing on these tours, and not just competing in Korea.

I am not sure what Shanelle has done, I heard that she beat Jeanette Lee in a short race to 5 over in Korea. Obviously she has some talent, but I am not sure why she is not competing on the regional tours.

I am currently looking to sponsor a local player on the regional tours in 2009 - which means I will pay their entry fees and provide free coaching, etc. Shanelle's name isn't on my list of candidates. Once again, this is not a jab at Shanelle, I am just saying that the other ladies that I mentioned in the above paragraphs are solid, fierce, battle tested players. The only time I have seen Shanelle play was at the 2007 World 10 Ball in Jacksonville, Florida - I remember what she wore more than how she played. She could have ran 10 racks and out, and I wouldn't have noticed because I was staring at what everybody else was staring at.

I hope that at some point she gets the proper career guidance so that she can ride this wave for as long as possible. As it stands right now, she is being marketed for all of the wrong reasons (JMO).

BlackJack,

I have been holding back for days! from this and the other thread started from commenting. Because, some people (mostly men:rolleyes: ) don't see nothing wrong with her using her "natural assets" than any talent or skills... Yes, I do agree she is a very effective Marketing Tool or T-OO-s. I agree she's got the looks and pretty descent personality... only from guessing.

** When she was at the SBExpo, she worked diligently at the Poison booth, always with a huge smile no matter how many creeps stop to talked to her just to get a closer look at her clevage... Sad, they were talking to her never made the eye contact... She ignored (or played dumb) all that what I consider an insult and greeted every creep with a smile... She's taking her job very serious and - Shanelle for that patience, I command you.

But the truth is she's not a "player". She does not compete in any other events but in Korea... more like as a crowd pleaser - think.

BlackJack, you mentioned you think she must have some talent because she beat J. Lee in one short race in Korea... I read in the press release (all of you search gurus should be able to find it on AZ search) it may have been a race to 4 and Jeannette played HORRIBLE! She scratched after pocketing the 8, hung the 8 and whatever disaster you can think of happened. I guess it does take some skill to execute the ball in hand...

Another player mentioned - one guy who actually watched her play - said she couldn't even make a closed bridge...Maybe she's not competing in any qualifier or other tournaments in US because, probably she's not ready, even though she's been taking lessons.

I hear she's working very hard on her game even though she's working two different jobs - So I guess being a Poison Representative really doesn't pay her bills:rolleyes: Probably the real reason why someone like Karen Corr was passed up for the job... Not much $$$$.

Why dont all you whiners sponsor the women that "deserve" to be sponsored. It's not like we're sending her to the olympics, she is selling a product. Who cares if she can play or not-she looks good so it will bring attention to pool. Do you realize that 99.9% of the population don't know who Allison or Karen are? They know who the Black widow is, wonder why. How long has it been since she has been near the top? 10,15 years maybe more, how long ago did Allison come over & start dominating? Yet no one knows who she is. Fact is if you put Shanelle, Baretta & a few others on TV it will draw interest-not my rules, not saying it's fair but that's life.

How many Shanelles are we going to be allowed before the sport loses all credibility? The problem with sponsoring her, parading her infront of audiences, promoting her has to do with what the rest of the world is going to think. Jeanette Lee's looks may have gotten the world's attention but it's her world class skill that keeps the customer.

Fact is, you go to any major tournament and there are beautiful women aplenty that can hold a cue. In fact, some of those beautiful women are on the pro tour or have done serious damage at the amateur events. They have put off career moves, held back on having families, spent countless hours in the poolroom so that they could be ready for the next big event. To have a sponsor come along and overlook these devoted women and sponsor a pin-up is insulting and very unmotivating.

Hey, I'd be first in line to take that girl out for dinner but I can understand why some women are upset. I've seen her play. She's a pin-up, not a player.

How many on here play with a CUETEC? But it's ok for great players to endorse a product that 95% on here would say is junk? Oh yeah I know they need the money so it's "OK" but when you have someone on here with a sponsorship that can't play champion speed they are doing something wrong. Give me a break. Grow up.

Yes, even Marissa would accept it. I haven't seen anyone gave their free lunch away due to their belief that someone better than them deserves it. that would be totally insane. would you give it to the better players as a form of charity? or would you keep it as an honor and a form of income?

How much credability does pool have to lose? answer NONE. Who decides who should get the sponsorship? you? If this is how it should be played then ONLY ALLISON SHOULD BE SPONSORED PERIOD. Maybe Karen also after Allison. You start talking about women that have done serious damage at amature events, why should they have a sponsor? WHY DONT YOU SPONSOR THEM?

So two wrongs make a right? I think most here would agree that the partnerships made between professionals and sponsors should be respectable. The industry has a poor history in this regard.

Quit Complaining & Start Sponsoring The Women You Feel Deserve It. Or Does Everyone Just Want To Complain?
Yes It's Possible I'm Yelling:d

Right or wrong doesn't matter. She is selling a product, not being nominated for the nobel peace prize. No comments about the peace part please.

Son, I think you need to get some education and possibly a laxative. First, you shouldn't answer your own questions. It comes off as asinine. Second, just because I don't agree with one extreme doesn't mean my opinion defaults to the other. There are plenty of women inbetween Shanelle and Allison that sponsors can consider and many of them are very attractive. All it takes is a little research and you can find a run out player who can knock your socks off. Third, this is a discussion about why Shanelle should be given a chance which means debating with people who don't think she should be given that chance (yet). You're gonna have to come up with a better retort than "WHY DONT YOU SPONSOR THEM?". You just don't make any sense when you say stuff like that.
