I look at it like you either prefer a pin to wood connection like with a 3/8 10 or radial, or, you like a brass insert in your shaft like the 5/16 18-14 with many of them being piloted joints. The uni lock is like a super extreme piloted joint where the high tolerance of the pin into the shaft is the spin the manufacturer puts on it, but, in the end it is still a metal to metal connection which adds more weight to the joint.
you can go from an aluminum radial at .5 oz to a uni lock at over 2 ounces... big difference.
To me that's the main difference as opposed to the actual thread count of the pin.
