Why so much hate for McDermott cues?

Like a lot of people who are passionate about something, pool players often like being different, their is such a huge selection of customs out there folks like going for something that few others have, or can even get. Nothing wrong with production cues, my house rack is full of them, it would just be kind of boring to not always be sharing new custom cueporn lol

. I say that said:
Amen to that ! Personally for me, I'm a Meucci man, Love the hit of the older meucci's and always played with them. I've won other cues, bought and sold other cues. I tried them out but always went back to a Meucci. My meucci of choice is a 8 pointer, steel joint (actually nickel) from the early 90's. Love that cue and last I checked the batteries are pretty good in it.

My McDermott C-14 is one of the best hitting cues I ever played with.

I have turned down over 10 times what I paid for it many times.

Nothing wrong with a McDermott. It was my playing cue 30 years ago when I first started playing and everyone wanted a meucci. I would say there designs maybe dated and they just aren’t popular anymore. It seems like everyone is playing predator or cuetec these days but there is nothing wrong with the hit or quality of a good old McDermott

Personally, I don’t like their current designs. Some of the old stuff looks nice.
I got a McDermott cue over 15 years ago for a friend and the shaft arrived warped, I sent it back and he got a Predator instead.

A few weeks ago I got the chance to hit a few balls with the G Core shaft that intrigued me a bit, I didn’t really like it’s feel and deflection is rather high.

I also don’t like the fact that they don’t offer the option for an extension except for one line of cues.

All of the above kind of puts McDermott in an irrelevant spot compared to the competition.
Sorry but “Made in the USA” just doesn’t cut it anymore and if it still important to anyone, then there are better “made in the USA” options out there.

Hi, yes…..I'm new here to AZBilliards.com. I've been playing pool off and on for most of my life. I'm in my early 50's now but when I was younger, in the late 80's and early 90's I played A LOT of pool. I've never owned my own (nice or should I say expensive) cue. Back then, the people I hung around that had their own cues and they always had or wanted a McDermott cue.

I finally got my own table in my house! When I got the table, I put a McDermott G303 on layaway. I paid $25.00 a week for almost 3 months and FINALLY got my own (in my opinion) nice cue! I've been on here for a while and I see a lot of "hate" towards McDermott cues?!?! I don't get it!

I own my home, I work hard, I have a wife and kids, dogs, cats, etc… I'm very happy with my cue, I looked at a lot of different ones and finally decided on the G303. It seemed like a nice cue and wasn't too expensive. Since I've been on here, it seems as though most people want "custom" cues or anything other than a "production" cue?

Honestly, I guess it's just that I'm a greenhorn or a noobie, but it's weird to hear people talk smack about McDermott cues! Lifetime warranty, good product, made in the USA blah blah blah….

I love my cue, in fact, I'm thinking about getting the G603 for my birthday in July. I love the leather McDermott embossed grip. Oh, one more thing, I've never even heard of a Diamond Table until I came onto this site.

I love to read the threads on here, i've learned a lot. I don't post much…yet…My playing has improved considerably since I got my own table. I love playing pool, I really, really enjoy it.

Are McDermott cues inferior or is it that a lot of people prefer "custom" cues as opposed to "production" cues?

Thanks! I anticipate your responses….

If anyone is in Las Vegas or is coming to Las Vegas, I have a nice Mancave and I'd love to play some people from this site. I'm not that good, but I love the game…maybe I'll learn to shoot better?!?! I'm 20 minutes from the Strip.

CHEERS!
Do you like your cue? Don't worry about what anyone else thinks about your cue, they don't have to use it, look at the cue Efren started out with, after a while you may try different cues and find one you like better but this might be just the right cue for you, if you truly want to be a better player find a PBIA billiards instructor in your area, shouldn't be hard to find there, and take lessons, the first thing you need to learn is where YOUR vision center is, it's not eye hand coordination, it's eye brain hand coordination, if you are just starting out you won't have a lot of bad habits to unlearn, like many sports pool is easy to understand but difficult to master and alot of fun in doing so
