why the hell is earl svb partner in world cup of pool?

very well stated, I know earl is a top player was/is. but they played before did not do so well earl meltdown a mosconi was another public spectacle of usa's decline in the pool world and it looks set to continue. its a shame.

You're an action player. Put yourself into action against Earl. Maybe you can take his spot?

Shane didn't pick Dechaine because the format will not be "rack your own" where Mike excels at arranging the balls in such a way, as to secure a win. Similar to "Trick shots"...only "Trick Racking."

Really? I've never that before...............are you sure you haven't said it before, I'm sure I would remember that?

All the top guys manipulate the rack in rack-your-own. This isn't news.

The only difference between Earl and Mike D at this time is the resume. So if you had to choose between 2 hotheads wouldn't you pick the one that has the most impressive accomplishments and experience??

Shane &Earl

Great matchup Shane is a younger Earl and Earl is a legend they will upset in this tournament 2 great players that respect each other I'd love to see them win .

They both compliment each others game and I think they work very well together. If Shane can keep Earl calm and put together they will do amazing things.

I think Mike showed he has surpassed Earl showed clearly when they played their heads up match at Snookers. It was not very close. In addition, there was supposed to be another Match but that hasn't happened yet. That being said, Earl still has game and most still can't keep up with him IMO.

Why on earth would this happen?
I remember a conversation at the bar table in feb that shane said he would pick earl and there was a bunch of older players and fellow professionals saying why> they were saying he should go with a young gun like bergman, woodward, dechaine, hall etc

why would this happen?? I know svb grew up watching earl but he basically eliminated any chance of them winning.

when will people and fans get away from earl who in honesty is a disgrace to the game. archer also is well respected top guy but move on and get some new blood in. well done mark Wilson for having the bottle to change it, might be rough intitially but got to start somewhere.

Chinese Taipei England A Netherlands and phillipines are my bet for this event
cause shane's deaf and will turn off his hearing aid the moment
he see's earls forehead vein filling up with blood:eek::)

I believe I have seen you mention this before in other threads :D

Earl is Shanes partner for the same reason you're not: -----------> TALENT !!!

cool response, very mature

if its down to accomplishments then he should play with nick varner?
same thing earl passed it has been for awhile, not to mention utter disgrace to the sport is that the person you want to put on the big stage??

sad really.

I would think EVERY pro has knowledge of not only how to rack, but HOW to rack.

Where should a pro draw the line when rent $ is on the line?

Did Earl steal your girlfriend or something?

I'm thinking Shave Van Boening has respect for Earl because Earl beat Shane in the $$$ challenge match a couple years ago. I haven't heard of the others you mentioned stepping up with big dollars to challenge Shane.

Shane does a lot of things I admire.

To me, this is the young lion showing the old lion respect.
...and the chemistry just might work.

If Shane and Earl win this thing....I promise to become a better person...
...I'll help elderly people across the street and reduce my sins of omission
by 50%.......well, maybe 10% :o

Count me among the Earl haters, but I'll momentarily overlook the fact that he is routinely abusive of fans, referees, tournament officials and promoters.

Earl had a great career for sure and is rightly counted among the greatest rotation pool players ever but he is not one of the premier players anymore and he proves it over and over. Every once in a blue moon, we see shades of the Earl of yesteryear, but a player is judged on their average game, not their best game, and Earl's average game of 2014 isn't very good.

Earl doesn't beat the big names anymore. The only time in 2014 I saw him collect any scalps of note was in the Derby City Bank pool event, and if the WC of Pool were a bank pool event, Shane's choice of Earl would be, Brumback and Woodward forgive me, OK by me.

Even in regional play, nobody thinks Earl is the one to beat. In Joss tour events, Dechaine, Shaw and Sossei are far more successful.

If Earl, and it's extremely unlikely, plays like he did in 2003, perhaps the last year in which he played like the Earl of old, he and Shane are the clear favorites to win the WC of Pool. However, given how Earl plays now, I'm guessing they will lose in the quarterfinals, which would be a complete failure for America, and would reinforce the international impression that American skills over the green felt are second-rate.

Of course, when Shane and Earl lose in the quarters, I look forward to reading on AZB about how well Earl played.
