Why the UPA is Stupid

From it's inception, to current modern day, the UPA has ALWAYS been a self serving organization.
Doesn't matter who was running it, it wasn't about the players, it was about who could control players and manipulate rankings so that the boys club didn't have to work as hard.

It doesn't really matter if the UPA changes at all, cause to some people, that is what the UPA will ALWAYS represent. Just another form of organized crime in pool.

I agree with most of the above but not the statement "didn't have to work as hard" part....this game is soo tough....to be a great player....you "have" to be extremely disciplined to be consistent, discipline 'is' hard work/sacrifice.

This is true, but when the boys club receives invitations for a few exclusive events per year back in the day that were also used for points rankings, while having international fields, you effectively shut out a lot of the hard working disciplined players, who were at odds with the UPA who never got the chance to play. So in effect, the players that kissed the UPA's butt, got to pad their rankings. Lets also not forget that back in the day, the UPA had control of who went to Mosconi cup and who didn't, and waved the whole "sign the contract OR ELSE" in some of the players faces who were reluctant to join the UPA.
$8000 bucks per player is a lot of scratch for an organization to delegate and wave it in front of players faces as a taunt for not kissing the organizations butt.

Believe me, when you play favorites, and as a result of that, players get in to points based things, when they didn't earn those points legitimately, it is just wrong.

A Prefered post ie - good ol boy club

The conflict between Danny and Brady/UPA/Frank was covered heavily on AZ some 4 years ago. Here was one of the threads by Blackjack, who tried to help mediate the situation:

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=12856

This thread above is irrelevent and will twist the truth about my situation with Frank, many strange games can be played on these forums. I can assure yall that this thread is one of those that will indeed twist the truth. They have a way of making it sound like I am crying about something and or looking for attention. TATE may be perfectly innocent in his choice of threads to post but this was a poor choice at best. The bottom line is if Frank wanted me off the UPA he should have just said so. I never asked for Blackjack's help and in the beginning of this thread it would seem like he genuinly cares about helping me get paid. Again very strange, blackjack also offered to pay what was owed to me which was not his place to do so but hey he's 21 right.:)

Brady owed me $ and after two years of waiting and no response from Brady except give your adress for the 30th time and I'm not too far off, then not sending the check when he said he would and me just waiting. Yes the UPA did go to court in some way to try and compensate me but Frank was the real dissapointment. Brady just ran a tournament and came up short, he kept blowing me off untill I finally posted about it here on az. This probably perterbed him and so he felt threatened and responded with a fib here on az and said he had paid me with $ orders, ask anyone that u find reputable here and u will discover that Brady was indeed lying in order to save face or protect his rep. Then there was a small buzz here on az for a while and people were wondering cause of posts like the one TATE posted if I was being honest about $ that was owed. The truth came out and Brady publicly admitted here on az that he did owe me the $, but Frank was the real dunder head in all of this. Sorry Frank but I don't think you will ever make a pool player cause you will not except resonsability for your overbearing need to be a total control freak.

I will say it one more time I was told that if I wanted to continue to compete on the UPA that even though I was owed $ from a prior event I would have to pay my yearly fee, and THAT YEARLY FEE could not be taken off the $ I was owed from Brady's event (which was sanctioned by the UPA.) Brady just could not afford to pay all the players, Frank totally lied and tried to make this some sort of political scam I was trying to pull. I asked Frank why he would not subtract the fee off the tournament I was owed $2000.00 for (upa sanctioned event.) He said it's not our fault your owed that $ and were doing what we can to get u paid but if u want to continue to play on the upa then you will have to pay your yearly $100.00 fee (meanwhile Franks tour I like to call it owed me $2000.00 at the time of this argument.) I ask you fellow az'ers would you have continued to play while being harrased by Frank for some nonsense fee when he would not take it off the $ he was neglegent for?

The upa was started by Max Eberle and Charlie Williams, Max met Phil Muller who liked pool and that helped get the ball rolling for Charlie and Max. Mr. Eberle is a fine artist in his own right and designed the logo for the UPA as Phil became the President and this opened some doors for there to be a Mens new Pro 9 ball tour. Max stayed on as a board member for a while as did many other fine people and then let Charlie take over the business end, Charlie gave Frank the job of leading rep. These individuals are no longer involved with the upa, there may be some fine people aboard as of now but the leadind rep. (Frank Alvarez) is not one of them in my view.
