Falcon Cues are made in Canada with good quality, but seems no one in here caring for them. Because only a few people have ever used them or just few people have ever heard of them?

Falcon Cues

I myself have never played with a falcon but a friend of mine in Beaumont Texas Steve Lenz does or did.I havent talked to him in a while. I have never heard him complain about it

Correct me if I'm wrong, Falcon cues USED to be made in Canada. But in the past few years, it moved to either Taiwan or China.

In Taiwan, it used to be very popular as many bought it over American production cues, but not so popular anymore because of that.

I have been using my Falcon cue since I got it ten years ago and I havent found anything that suits me better. i think its a solid cue for the money and they used to have a decent following but they moved production overseas some years ago and the new falcon cues are nowhere near what they used to be imo

They offer some of the best designs in terms of production cue IMO, I would've gotten my hands on one of these but the ones I've played with were really not that great.

I had one approximately 10 years ago. Not a bad cue and it had the slickest linen wrap I've ever seen ( so slick it enabled or I should say forced me to have a slip stroke). Can't comment on the newer ones as this was the only one I played with.

Falcon closed down the Canadian operation 3 years ago, and went back to the location of the parent company, KPS. They make the Falcon line in Taiwan now. The quality is still the same, but Falcon lost the local rep network in North America when they shut down the Canadian plant.

One of the best selling features of Falcon was that they made the Predator shafts and butts for Predator up until about 2006. The standard joint pin on Predator cues was the 5/16-14 stainless. For about the same price as a Predator, you could buy a Falcon with standard shaft, and add a Predator shaft, plus put about $20 in your pocket. Lots of players in Canada still have the old Falcon butt with the Predator shaft, and they are a dead match.

When Predator chose to go offshore for production, that killed a lot of the value of the Falcon cue line. I think Falcon got a little boost in sales from people knowing they built most of the Predator line.

Hey Shawn, thanks for the info. So which Predator version shafts were
made in Canada? I've read that the pre-cats were made in Florida, and
then production was moved overseas. I didnt know that actual Predator
shafts were made in Canada. Just curious. Also, It seems to me that
Falcon cues are priced pretty much even with Joss cues, and if I had a
choice of either for the money, I would choose the Joss. I have no good
reason for this because I've never hit with a Falcon.

The shafts that were logo'd with the 314 were made in Canada. The version with the cat and 314 were made here as well. There were a bunch of rumours as to how much of which process was done where. Some said that the shaft was assembled in Canada, then sent to the US for boring and ferrule, and then it was sent back to Canada for final pass, sanding/sealing, and finishing. If you ever did a dumpster dive at Falcon (I did quite a few - they threw out some great stuff!) you would find Predator blanks by the dozen. Full blanks - ferrule, tip, sanded and sealed. I think Predator went to Samsara in 2006, and then went offshore with the 314-2.

Funny story about hitting like a Joss. Ernie Chin learned how to make cues when he worked with Dan Janes at Joss. There are major differences in construction now between Joss and Falcon. If I had to buy one of these, it would be Joss. Dan has constantly changed his construction techniques to make his cues better. Falcon has just stuck with what worked back in the 90s. I see a lot of Falcons with warped butts due to the construction technique they used.

I have an older Flacon, seems to work ok. Points are not sharp, but it looks nice. My daughter says it tastes ok.

My main playing cue for years was a Falcon M5. I still use it on occasion, and it plays very close to the Lambros I now use. There are lots around here in the middle of the Canadian prairies, a very popular cue.

One my favorite How It Is Made episodes, from the Falcon factory :

PS to Falcon experts, my cue has no logo (the triangular part), only the name "Falcon", does that make it a particular vintage ??

Wow, thanks again for the info. So the Pre-cats that I play with were made
in Canada. I was under the impression that those were made in Florida. Not
that it matters. I love the way they hit and the way they play no matter
where they were made. Thanks again for the info.

Well, I wouldn't call myself a Falcon expert, but I've sold a lot of them, and played with a lot of them.

They switched to the new logo (no triangle, no bird) in or around 2006 or 2007. The E, C and M series were the first, if I remember right, to feature the new logo.

I think the oddball shafts were made in Florida. They made an 8 piece and a 12 piece shaft when they first started out. There are most likely a bunch of the 10 piece shafts that were made in Florida as well. When Falcon started making all of the standard Predator line butts, they were contracted to assemble the shafts as well.

I had a FAL-10...Looked similar in style to Schon traditional 4-pointer-Ivory diamonds, and hit very similar--stiff. My schon shaft fit it and the silver ring/joint matched. My schon hit better with the falcon shaft, both with triangles...
Karen Corr played, and was sponsored by Falcon(Mustang Series) Dont know if she is still.
I like the old ones...never seen a newer import though...Great bang for the buck.
