Why Watch Accustats Without Grady?

I have to agree with many of you; Grady is/was a good commentator and Jim Wyche is a joke. I too stopped ordering Accu-stats videos because Grady wasn't commenting. IMO Grady and Danny made a real good team and I wish Pat would get them back.

I am amazed how many people don't want to watch great pool videos of matches they are never going to see elsewhere, just because Grady isn't commenting on them.:rolleyes:

Personally, I think that Grady and Billy give ALL the others the 7 out and the break when it comes to commentating. And when they are together it adds just enough comedy and knowledge of the game to make the price of the tapes extremely well worth it.

Grady, I don't think the liklihood of that is too great, but I for one would love to see it happen. Accu-stats might be willing to give you a raise (I don't presume to know what you made, but you probably deserve a raise), but Wych appears to be there to stay.
I would also add the Wych does not add anything to the commentary, he is just an albatross hanging around the neck of whoever is doing the real commentary (if I hear "break off" one more time ...).

Now that Accu-Stats has gone digital, it would be nice if they put settings on the DVD's to be able to turn the commentary off. Or better yet, to turn off commentators independently. :D
 
Wych is terrible...I rarely buy Accu-Stats tapes anymore because its stupid to watch them on mute because of that inept commentator...I'll take Grady and Danny D. for my cash.

I own both the Derby City ring game DVD's as well with Danny D. and Jimmy Mataya....both are great due to comedy and nice shot calling on both their parts.

I quit working for Accu-stats because they picked Wych and Cardone over me for a TV tournament, after I went to the event expecting to to have that job. I even packed extra suits in case I needed them. Anyway, I worked for and with them for 13 years and I never got to do TV or get the better paying jobs.

I remember when that happened...all I seen was Grady walk down the bleachers at a pretty good pace. I looked up and seen Wych in the booth with Billy. Wych bores the piss outta me while Grady gives his opinion, Billy has his moments and Danny...well he is Danny. Buddy is very opinionated in the booth like Grady which makes for good pre-shot banter. I say bring back Grady and send Wych back to snooker-land.

BTW...CATS, Danny D's storytelling ability's are strong due to his animated ways <waving hands, walking away and then suddenly turning back for more> but not the best story teller, for me its THE BEARD!!!

Can't say I've heard many stories by The Beard so I can't judge. Maybe someday I'll have the pleasure of hearing a few.

While I agree with this to a certain point; I have to say that the Efren Reyes Player Review tape is a "must-see" just because of the commentary. I can't even remember who he plays; but I can remember almost everything he said during the review.

I also have to agree with the general bad review of Wych - terrible commentator for my purposes. Double thumbs up for Grady and Danny D.

somebody tell Accu-Stats owner Pat about this thread and the buisness it sounds like he's losing and he might bring back our forum buddy Grady, If so I'll buy a hundred dollars of new Grady featured matches. Leonard
 
Grady Mathews is my all time personal favorite in the Accu-Stats booth. I also enjoy Freddie Bentivegna, Incardona, DilIberto, Buddy Hall, Nick Varner, Howard Vickery & Jerry Forsythe. Bill Staton & Johnny Ervolino were also great. The only ones I don't care for were Jim Wyche (who HAS to be there when the Billiard Club Network is involved, as per their contract), Don Polo, Jerry McWhorter & David Maddux. But my personal all time worst is Tony Annigoni. I'm sure he is a good guy & all, but every time he speaks to Billy Incardona, it's "William" this & "William" that. Plus, he comes off as CLUELESS in every pinch that occurs on the table. He reminds me of Dennis Miller, trying to force unfunny humor.
But my bottom line is I have 220+ Accu-Stats videos & DVDs and every one that has Grady Mathews on them is special to me.

every 14.1 grady tape i've seen was with incardona,,,and THEY BOTH SUCK TOGETHER. they do nothing but pot take shots at each other. and the only time it was good was when sigel, di liberto, or ervolino popped in,,,,and johnny made them look like children.

We as a Pool community have to try and do something here. It's obvious that virtually everybody wants Grady back and can't stand Wych. Any ideas on how to organize a (protest) for lack of a better word. Accu-Stats is "THE BEST" educational tool on the market for Pool and with Grady in the Booth it's a Harvard degree and with Wych in the Booth it's like finger painting!!!

Yes, I have an idea... Everyone who cares call Accu Stats today and tell Pat you refuse to buy another match until Grady is brought back.

I'm thinking 50-60 calls in one day will do the job.

The best commentators ever.....Gabe Owen and Aaron Czetli they were great during the matches they did for the IPT, we need some humor. And is it just me or do we need to nix the "guy with the pro that commentates," role. Often its like they commentate like they are lost and talk about things from an outsider position I want to punch them square in the face everytime Mitch Lawrence says, "She is doing what she has to do. Making great shots." Yeah with 5 inch pockets big fing deal!
 
Basically I'm just seconding what everyone has said already. Wych, Hopkins, and Lawrence are all cheesy and suck and Grady, Danny, and Billy all convey their knowledge of the game well. Sometimes DiLiberto may miss a call on a shot, but some shots can be played 2 or 3 ways and are basically a players personal preference so he's gonna miss a few. Plus DiLiberto tells stories that make me feel like a kid listening to my grandpa by a fire. As far as Wych goes, the word "crescendo" may be fine for a ballet recitals, fashion shows, and art museums, but definately does not belong in a pool hall.

I have made this phone call in the past..... but I really don't think Pat has a say in it anymore. BCN wears the pants in that relationship.
