This was when I first started taking a serious interest in pool...
I was in Las Vegas back in 2006 for the BCA tourney. I was shooting with a McDermott M8F5 (original shaft). The ferrule seemed to have little pits in it, so once our team was knocked out, I gave the shaft to one of the 'repair' shops right outside the ballroom to replace the ferrule & tip. Picked it up and it looked great, so I hopped on the plane back home...
Couple weeks later (I was all 'pooled' out when I got home), I uncovered the pool table and started shooting with my brand new ferrule and tip... and couldn't make a ball to save my life. Ok, maybe I need to warm up, maybe I'm tired, etc...
Over the next few months I couldn't get used to the new tip and ferrule. We started back up in league the following October, and I still couldn't shoot for s*** !! A teammate looks at my cue, tries to shoot a couple of shots, looks up at me and says, "When did you switch shafts ?"
The shaft I gave the repair guy in Vegas TURNED MY SHAFT DOWN TO 11.5 MM !!!!
The only person who works on my cues now is Dave Leckinger, at Six Pockets in Rochester, New York. He does great work, and is a hell of a nice guy, too.
