??? Wil Pay ???

Darned!!! I agree with Hemi, I just love action!!!! Sure was hoping to see some!!! Aw what the heck, we almost had some. I sure appreciated the barking anyway! Thanks guys for giving me a sniff!

Pelican, I've heard tons of good things about Rick's Mace. And after seeing John Schmidt use it in action, I'm more than leaning toward it. Drivemaker, personally, I haven't tried one myself, but when several vendors tell you that the Sledgehammer is out of stock and they can order you one, but a Predator BK is 3x better, then you tend to turn the other way. Especially, when they know you are about to go somewhere else and order one. Man, I love honest dealers. The main thing I don't like out the Sledgehammer is the phenolic tips. I'll much rather have a hard leather tip than phenolic for breaking.

I've not used a Mace but I understand that they are a very good break cue.
I'm anti-Predator for everything except their break cue and I think they're VERY good. However, I found the Sledge to be better. I have no problems with the phenolic tip it's an awesome stick. I've not found anything better to date. Maybe I'll try a Mace one day. But like all cues, you gotta try them for yourself. One guy's jewel is another guy's poison.

Well put driver.

I tried a phenolic on a Hubler J/B. Was Ok but easy to miscue. Mace had one on when I got it but had Rick switch to hard leather for me after a few weeks. Just can't get used to the plastic tips. I know it's me cause lots of folks use 'em.

C'mon Willi - Lets give these wippersnappers some action.

There ain't gonna be a shootout at the Ho-Tay corral. It was just a sudden testosterone spike brought on by some extra holiday egg-nog to a couple of geezers. They're back in their ezchairs now trying to keep warm under their blankies. You'll have to take care of that score yourself. Willee-GET-More is just wondering if he should change his name to Willee-GET-Any...maybe we all should....Merry Xmas.....Ho Ho Ho

I say we prove these Young Wippersnappers all wrong. Lets show them that a game between gentlemen of maturity can and will be done by matching up strictly via the Internet. "THIS COULD BE A FIRST"!
My only stipulation is that one of us will win at least $300 or more. $500 or more is when my pacemaker kicks in and I either will play a little better or keel over.

You pick the place in Terre Haute.
You pick the table size.
You pick the game.
You pick the date & time.
You pick the format. (race or ahead)

JUST REMEMBER - You can pick your friends & You can pick your nose, But You should never pick Your friends nose !

Where's Terre Haute? If you're asking me, hell NO. My car only knows one way to go SOUTH...never NORTH, especially in winter. My EZ chair with warm blankie is right where I want to be. In one month I'll be headin' almost as far south as you can go for at least 4-6 weeks. I'm a sun seeker.

Willee is a gentleman of maturity...not quite our age but close enough. Maybe since you two live close by the game can be on again. Willee....Willee....YO- Willee.........

I will put in $25 toward the set OHB vs. Williebetmore...I will not, however be there!!

What do you mean?

Piglet - You say you'll put in $25. On who? Do you think this is a fund raiser?
OK - I'll accept your $25 and anyone elses. I take Mastercard, Visa, American Express & Paypal.

OHB,
Sorry, I haven't been following this thread. I'm certainly not interested in playing in Terre Haute (wouldn't even know where to play). But I would definitely be interested in playing in Indy if you are in the neighborhood (my house or neutral court) or in St. Louis. I won't know my schedule for next year until after New Years, but I am definitely planning a trip to the St. Louis area in winter or spring for an extended lesson with Mark Wilson. I will contact you when I am sure of the dates, and perhaps we can get together.

The game should be straight pool to 200, you spot me 120, play for $300, 9 foot table (I don't care about the size of the pockets). On the off chance I win, I'll play till I lose it back. If I lose, I'm getting out of town fast (I've read a portion of your newspaper article, I know when I'm out of my league - unless of course you are a REALLY skillful hustler, in which case you'll just beat me by a little, making me think I have a chance).
Have a happy holiday season.

P.S. - Is gambling legal in St. Louis????
P.P.S. - Do I need to bring muscle for the places you play???(not that this is any "big game", but I've been places where you'd get mugged if you inadvertently flashed a 5 dollar bill)

My donation is 'coz I want to hear the action report when you 2 get together. It will go to the winner.

Alone, it ain't shizzit and I know that. Hell, I wouldn't even drive the 2mi to my local pool hall to play for $25! But, if you look at the US Open threads, lots o' AZBers put $25 in and paid for Rude Dog to go to the open from AZ...

Welcome to the Information Age. If someone gets up in a tournament and knocks off champions and gambles openly there as well then everything they do is PUBLIC DOMAIN. It can be discussed at length without reservation.

In the other thread about Tom Ferry and Louie Roberts the point was crystal clear. You can lay down and knock off champions and NEVER get a big time reputation or you can go around head-hunting and become universally known and feared.

If Will Pay or Billy Payton didn't want his "action" knocked then he should have stayed out of the limelight.

It's no different these days anyway. In the old days two guys could be playing ten dollar nine ball in the corner and by the time it reached the front of the room they would be playing $1000 one pocket. Same thing - different medium. In the old days they had phones and when someone got dusted in one poolroom the info went out on the wire so someone could try and get a piece of the action in some form down the road.

There is NO HARM in asking for information on this forum or any other. I recently moved to a new town and so far have beat a few good players. Now everybody is coming out of the woodwork to steer me. They don't want to bet against me and have no problem lining me up with their acquaintances.

Nothing changes.

Howdy,
I totally agree.

I agree.......In a way

I agree that "If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen". The internet, phone, TV & tournament exposer are facts of life that must be dealt with. It is up to the Hustler to figure out how.
But I can't stand it when someone deliberately KNOCKS someone’s action just to look smart or knowledgeable just because they were at a tourney. I have always taught my Son to keep his ears & eyes open and his mouth shut.
Now he plays at a bowling alley (w/ tables) and a player comes in looking for a game. He has seen this player at the "Big Time" poolroom with me. He didn't say a word but just started side betting on the player when he got in action. The next day he told me he made $280 betting on the guy and that my advice was the some of the best. I asked him if he did the next right step in this instance and he said, yes. After the game he went to the player and offered him $50. The player said he had won $850 and remembered that Tommy was my Son. He had recognized Tommy and was worried that Tommy would knock him and was happy that he didn't. He refused the $50 and Gave Tommy $50 instead. "THATS MY BOY"! - & My Daughter is even sharper!

Let me get this straight if I read this correctly. Your son now plays in a bowling alley with tables so I assume he knows most of the people there, especially the ones he is sidebetting with because I doubt strangers or in and out daily customers would bet on something theyknow nothing about. So he and the hustler that comes in make money off his friends. He does not protect his pool room from hustlers? He steals from the regulars? In my pool room I would protect all my players and customers from a hustler. If they want to match up fairly that is fine but I will inform any of my customers of a player who is on the hustle. Not doing so would be immoral and irresponsible. Thank God my son would never do such a thing and he is a player as am I. If you are in someone elses pool room that is a different story, then it is none of your business but in this case that does not sound like it. If that is the way he or you conduct business it is a bad a Pete Rose betting on his own team. He pretty well knows what the result will be.

I could not agree more my friend.

Whether it's a bowling alley with tables, a bar, or a pool room...how many games and how much money does a guy have to lose before he decides he's being outplayed, outclassed, and outhustled whether it's a "known" player that's beating him or not? Does something else ever kick in like smarts or common sense?

$850

Well that is what a hustler does, he keeps you guessing before you figure it out and in OHB story it took $850.00 to figure it out. Just takes longer for some people.

I'd say it depends on how skilled the hustler is and how stubborn, or stupid the mark is. I play in the same pool hall almost every day. Some of the people in there are friends and some are not. I would certainly take my friends aside and let them know if I knew someone was hustling. The others are on their own.
