WILL 70% ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL HURT A REVO FINISH

I'd guess 90% because that's the highest readily available concentration. I doubt the extra water in 70% will do any harm. I put 70% and sea salt in a skinny drinking bottle and just let it sit in there. Add more alcohol and salt as needed. I'm guessing it stabilizes way above 90%. I use a turkey baster to skim what I need to clean my sticks. Those are all wood and less water is better. Few mils on a paper towel, done.

Not a CF owner but i know guys that have cleaned their Revo's and Cynergy's since new with Zeiss wipes that are 70% iirc. Shafts still look brand new.

Any Isopropyl alcohol, from 70% to 91%, will work on any carbon fiber shaft without any problems. I am unsure about some off brands that are painted or have some kind of finish. I've had Revo's since they first came out. I currently have 2 Revo's, a Cuetec Cynergy and 2 Meucci Carbon Pro's. All I've ever used was Isopropyl alcohol w/o any problems. I avoid getting the alcohol on the tips so as not to dry out the leather.

The box my Mezz Ignite carbon fiber shaft came in says to use 80% alcohol, but I really don’t think it matters anywhere between 70% and 90%. 80% is actually extremely hard to find, so it’s a bit strange why they would recommend using it.

They told me that water doesn't clean, but spreads the oil from your hand. 90% is what you need. Cant get this now. Probably because hospitals use. I am using 70%. Seems to work just fine.

No idea if long term use of 70% will hurt a shaft, kinda skeptical. That is thirty percent water, probably distilled water. What percentage water is common sweat?

However, just to avoid any possible warranty issues I ordered a gallon of 99.9 percent medical isopropal alcohol planning to mix my own. A few weeks later my local dollar general had some 91% in stock after being out for months. I use alcohol for a few things besides cleaning cue shafts but even so I have enough to last me my lifetime.

The color does come off of my CF shaft. I think that is going to happen regardless of how it is used and cleaned.

Shootingarts you say you will mix your own. Try orange juice a piece of lemon over ice.

This is isopropyl, will really make you go blind or kill you. I did have a gallon of 200 proof grain alcohol to mix leg liniment for horses. I served it to guests a time or two, mixed of course. No aging or anything to smooth it out, the feedback was that it was pretty raw!

70% is perfectly ok. My buddies cf shaft turned the paper towel he used after wipe kinda black a few times when new. Not much at all now.

Predator recommends 96% wipes. I suspect it is not 100% IPA because they are impossible to find. 91% is the highest I've seen in stores and it's what I'm using.

Bob,

As I mentioned, the 99.9% stuff was ordered. The label says it is 99.9% isopropyl alcohol and it says it is medical grade. Being as how that is how it was listed and how it is described on the label I am going to accept that description. I occasionally argue with signposts but I usually refrain from arguing with the labels on products.

A couple weeks after the gallon jug came in the nearby Dollar General got some pints of 91% stuff in. They didn't put a limit on it and I thought I was buying for two so I bought six pints. There was still some on the shelf the next evening so I bought another three pints. My next trip through I noticed the shelf was empty as it has been for months when I passed by. The person I was going to share with didn't need any so I have roughly a gallon and a pint of 91% and the full gallon of 99.9%. Unless something really unexpected happens I should be able to ride out the alcohol shortage. Now if anyone has a connection for a generous supply of Charmin I will be in good shape on my most serious needs. I hate wiping either end with John Wayne tissue!

I'm sure it is labelled correctly. I should have said, "impossible for normal people to find.";) I also found some of the high-test but I wasn't interested enough to lay out $30 or whatever it cost for a jug. I still have a pint of pre-Covid 91%. No store around here has even 70%.

Bob,

Apologies for being a little grumpy! Very little sleep last night and I can't take a nap while waiting on a new computer that is out for delivery according to the website updates.

I haven't seen 70% on a store shelf with one exception, the lady at a drug store was embarrassed to show it to me. Some stuff that had a homemade looking label on it for nine dollars a pint! Before I bought that I would have went to the feed store for a hundred pounds of corn and went to cooking! Just a fluke I found the 91%, I hadn't seen it on the shelf since last Spring. After having it for a day and a half that store hasn't had it since then. Only a minor rip-off for the times, I paid a dollar and a half a pint, I think it was a dollar before covid.

I could have ordered seventy percent also but I needed higher levels for cleaning electronics and a few things. All is good, the more alcohol I have the more uses I can find for it. A gallon was thirty-five dollars shipped. Not good but maybe not bad for the times. Regardless, my alcohol on hand was down to less than an inch in the bottom of a quart bottle. I had kept putting off ordering but I finally had to pull the trigger. I use alcohol daily to dry my ears. Oddly enough, the water causes the burning sensation, ninety-one percent burns less than seventy percent. I am mildly tempted to try the strongest stuff straight but my ear drums are a little too close to the brain for comfort. I don't know what the strong stuff would do but I am not inclined to find out!

Going work on my slipstroke. It isn't very good but that keeps me occupied.

I’ve had a Revo since August and I use it every day, and despite cleaning it with those wipes and using rubbing alcohol it still leaves a black stain on my bridge hand. I like the shaft but it’s weird how I can play with it for an hour and my bridge hand is clean, then a shot or two later suddenly I’ll notice a big black streak on my hand.

Maybe from when you stretch on a long shot?

If you mean that when I stretch, my bridge hand is further down the cue and thus at a less used area so it’s more likely to rub off there, I don’t know if that’s the case since I clean the shaft pretty thoroughly and evenly. Or did you mean something else?
