Will a real cue maker step forward?

Scruggs can't do it, Phillipi failed miserably on my special request. Ted Harris didn't respond to my email. Blackheart doesn't do this, nor does anyone else as I have hinted on the forums a few times. Is there a reputable cue maker who can do this?

You have just managed to slam two of the most respected cuemakers out there and two of the better new cuemakers (under 20 years) out there. Tim is one of the best and Ricky is the nicest cuemaker on the planet. They both do remarkable work. You say that you know both of them, I say you don't! If you really did, you wouldn't talk about them in a public forum like this. You need to go find a newbie who doesn't know any better or else go buy the metal tape!

Let me state:

Tim Scruggs is my favorite cue maker, without a doubt. His cues hit the best. For a while now I have been trying to get him to build me a cue with my specs. If I said or gave you the impression that he couldn't do it, then I am sorry for that. I know that he can do it, but it is like Blud said, most cue makers don't want to get involved in these special matters. If you would have read my posts, you would have seen that my wife has been in touch with him, even driving all the way to his shop to discuss getting a forward balanced cue specially made for her also. Like I said, the only thing he was willing to do was change the woods etc. Tim is in his final days of producing cues and the cues he prefers to make presently are the high end cues. So that leaves me out.

As far as Phillipi, I am not best pals, and don't pretend to be, I am just saying that Rick is a nice guy. The cue he made me hit very good, but a 2.3" difference in the balance point was indeed 'botched', don't you think?!!!!! It was that I was promised something that either he had no intent of doing, or that he couldn't do, or whatever. Personally, IMHO, I have the feeling that Rick was not capable, so I left it at that. Someone please prove me wrong.

Blackheart makes a great cue, as does Layanti.

You guys have to realize that I am really new and uninformed about cues, so I apologize about coming across so strong. All this is just my opinion anyhow, so please accept it for what it is, nothing more.

you have not answered my ? yet. what is your buget and what style cue are you looking for? floating point or traditional point.

I have $1,500 to spend. I don't care about points. I really don't care at all how the cue looks either.

Whitewolf, I've never played with a cue with that much forward balance. I'm curious to know how you would describe how it plays, and exactly what is it about a cue with that balance point that you like?

Personally, and this is just my own personal opinion, my forward weighted sticks seem better balanced, to the point to where I feel no weight beyond my hand. Triangulation is a key to pin pointing a target, so to me the object ball, the slight weight I feel in the cue between the cue ball and the object bal, and my hand are these points. Having that weight towards the end of the cue is a total distraction.

And to those of you who have a lighter than normal cue to play around with, try going to buy some metal tape and temporarily move your balance point up to 21.3". Or you may want to try it on your normal cue.

The hardest point is tryng not to feel silly when you go to the hardware store Just think of it as thinking outside the box

FYI, one of those cues is starting to fail. It is starting to make a squeaky noise at the joint. I know it is the joint becaue this shaft plays fine with my other butt.

The joints are made out of plastic and I can't see my only good cue lasting forever.

So everyone please don't start seeing things between the lines. I am not here to brag about my cues or to bash other cuemakers (unless they have totally screwed up). I sincerely want to replace them.

Most will not agree. How can it feel better balanced if there is so much artificial weight in front? I take it you hold the cue very lightly and let it float. It will be hard to control that stick with all that weight in front.
Anything over 19.5" is just not natural.

Couldn't a cuemaker repair the cue? I mean since this is the cue you want the others to play like and you've got $1500 to spend...I'm sure someone could fix it for you.

I built one like that a few years ago. Hit so bad that I band sawed it and sent the guy his money back. That much mass in front of the wrap just kills all of the cues feel.

I'm still not over it, why must you continue to bring it up???

I just wanted to say thank you one more time for all of you guys with your comments (and humor - due to my part in not explaining everything in a proper manner).

I especially wanted to thank the hand full of cuemakers who contacted me to help build my custom cue. I gladly chose the first one who stepped up to the plate and he is working on the cue presently and I am sorry that I had to turn the subsequent offers down.
