Hi Everyone. As many of you know, I like to analyze pool videos. But I've never been happy with YouTube's controls for freeze-framing, slow-mo, and saving and looping short clips. So, I decided to create a specialized tool just for this purpose...

It's called Clippeo, and I've been working on it for the last month along with another programmer.

Clippeo lets you clip the best parts of any YouTube video, for fun, sharing, and instructional purposes. You can annotate clips with text and overlay drawings, and soon you'll be able to record voiceovers on clips.

I really need some feedback, so we're gonna have a contest: whoever gets the most 5-star ratings on a Clippeo they create by 5:00PM PST next Friday, November 1, will win $100, which I'll personally PayPal directly to you. You're welcome to create more than one, and also welcome to recruit friends and family to star-rate your Clippeos, too. There is absolutely no cost to enter - just create a free account on Clippeo and create at least one New Clippeo.

BROWSER COMPATIBILITY NOTE: Please use Firefox (best), Chrome, or Safari. We have not yet tested with IE9 or IE10, but hope too have them working smoothly soon. IE8 is out of the question. It does work pretty well on iPad Safari if that's your thing.

To be eligible to win, you need to reply to this thread and paste in the URL to your Clippeo(s), so we all can check them out and vote. To find great pool videos to clip, try this search under the New Clippeo tab:

clippeo.com/new?q=pool+championship+hd

Here are two from me to get things started (and no, I won't be eligible to win so feel free to give me additional 5-star ratings ):

ATTENTION INSTRUCTORS: We're working on an Experts platform on Clippeo, where you can offer your video instruction and review services with any fee structure you like. Please contact me by sending email to hello[at]clippeo[dot]com, or PM me here on AZB, for more information. There will be no cost to you.

Thanks everyone! Please feel free to PM me with any and all feedback, good and bad. Hope you like it!

-Ron

ps. Thanks InsidePool for a great video to work with!!

Looks pretty interesting, I will have to check it out. The offer is pretty nice too!

Hey Ron,

I think that's a pretty cool idea.

A year or so ago I was working on a different project that involved YouTube integration, but we ran into issues with the YouTube API ToS. How did you guys work around that?

Thanks. We met with the former head of YouTube product at Google, who said we're probably ok with our model. The only potential gray area is in our overlaying of drawings on the video ( think of John Madden's Telestrator ). We're not planning to run ads around or over the videos, and we're using only published API calls.

What issues did you run into?

Also, I'm happy to happy to announce that Scott Lee is going to be our first certified instructor on Clippeo. Thanks for the PM Scott!

Ron...Thanks for the Clippeo's of Efren from years ago. They were great! Like we talked about, there is so much video content out there, that your service makes complete sense...both from the enduser viewership perspective, and from the standpoint of personalized instruction and video analysis! Nice job!

I do want to say that this IS a freaking fantastic app and that name rolls off the tongue perfectly.

I predict everyone will be clippeoing soon.

Nice idea, but also as Barton said, the name and overall product is built to do well. Good luck with this!

Can Cleppeo rip webcasts from websites and like re-record or dub them, so that I can make a copy?

No, it doesn't make copies of videos or help you rip/download them. What it does do is help you make "deep bookmarks" with notes and loops of any of the billions of videos on YouTube.

In the case of a 2-hour pool match, you can clip just the breaks and interesting shots / runouts into maybe 10 minutes of viewing pleasure. You and others can then skip around to the bookmarked clips in any order.

Or, you can video yourself shooting pool, upload it to YouTube, then have Scott Lee or another instructor review your video using Clippeo, complete with drawing overlays and voiceovers.

where do I get one.... I have to have one I need one now....

Charlie, if I hadn't already bought a BreakRak from you, I'd offer you a trade of one Clippeo for one BreakRak. :)

Seriously though, Scott's right. It's a free service at Clippeo.com and you can learn about it in post 1 above.

Thanks for the explanation. I appreciate that! :)

Ron...Here's my first one...I took it right from my instructional video! Now I just have to figure out how to attach it to the Clippeo site!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqcu9ZOBuxY

Hi Scott, you're almost there. On the Clippeo site, click "New Clippeo" at the top, which takes you to http://clippeo.com/new, then paste that YouTube url (www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqcu9ZOBuxY) in the search box. Once it finds the video, click the "Create Clippeo" button.

Once you've created the Clippeo, you can add as many clips as you like with the "New Clip" button at the upper right.
