Apparently the BCA instituted a NEW Racking Policy at the BCA EVENT in May 08 at the Riviera in Lost Wages NEVADA. Now one room in the Valley of the Sun is following the BCA lead, and making it Winner Racks, Winner Breaks.

I personally do not like the Winner Racks, Winner Breaks thing, as the first time I encountered it, the guy I was playing was Manipulating the RACK so the NINE BALL was almost Sure to Pocket on the BREAK.

I got tired of say you have a LOOSE RACK PLEASE TIGHTEN it UP SO ALL THE BALL TOUCH.

I like Winner Breaks, Looser Racks.

Yep, I'm old school too. You lose? Get your ass down there and rack 'em. I also can't stand this new thing where they have the spots marked on the table where the balls go and you rack the balls without using the rack itself, just put them in their place.

I like racking for the other guy, than it is his job to check my work.

If he don't like it I re rack.

Irrespective of the rack mechanic issues...

The best way is rack your own. The incentive iss there for each to put up what is sufficient for their needs.

If it is winner rack can the loser check the rack with the new rules?

I play in a 9 ball league each week and i've gotten so many loose bad racks it's not funny. I was playing a guy (race to 9) and about mid way through the match I made the 9 on the break (it doesn't happen often for me) and from then on I got terrible racks. I know I should go down there and watch him rack the balls, but I like to think my opponent will give me a fair rack like I give them.

I was playing another fellow and his racks were not good so after a couple of games I asked him if he minded if I racked my own balls and he stated emphatically "Yes I do mind if you rack your own balls" and he continued to give me loose racks.

IMO to make it easy and fair I prefer to rack my own balls and have my opponent rack their own, winner racks! How can there be a conflict if you bad rack your self.

Couldn't agree more. I like getting rewarded for running out. Rack the damn balls....and well, too. I don't want to get "Cliffed."

I like it

I as a player don't care who racks. I rack for others like I would myself.

If I think someone is trying to cheat the rack, I'll go look at it and YES YOU DO HAVE THE OPTION TO REQUEST A RE-RACK OF YOUR OPPONENT

As a referee....I love it. The tournaments go much quicker, there's less arguing and I rarely get asked to rack anything.

Our league uses it and everybody pretty much adopted it just fine.

Rack-for-each-other should be obsolete. So should the 9-ball counting on the break. That would pretty much eliminate the problems associated with rack mechanics, lazy rackers and people who just flat out are incapable of getting all the balls racked tight. So, yes, rack-your-own is a step in right direction even thought it's ridiculous that the 9-ball still counts on the break....

I am not sure what the Official BCA Rules say, but IMHO if they looser nan not check the Rack the Winner has a GREAT ADVANTAGE.

Wait, which event are you referring to? The pro event or amateur?

The guy may not have even been doing it on purpose. Sometimes the balls just roll up to the rack that way. That's the problem. It doesn't take a cheater to make an unfair rack. That's one of the reasons why counting the 9 on the break is stupid. I know what gaps can cause the 9 to go in on the break, so when I rack for myself I actually rack the 9 tight to prevent it because I'm honest. But if someone doesn't know or if they do know but do not mind cheating, then yeah, you're at risk of them getting action on the 9. So we still have to play the stupid game of checking racks until awareness is raised enough for tournaments to start removing the 9 on the break rule. :boring2: At least there are less ways to wire the 9 then there are to make a slug rack. That's why rack-your-own involves less rack-nit-picking and is thus better than rack-for-each-other, IMO.

Who racks?

I don't believe it matters who racks as long as you CHECK the rack and have a tournament director who will enforce a good rack......also if the 9 or 10 doesn't count on the break, it helps stop the setting of racks.

If you are not FOR Rack your Own, then you are the guy/girl that likes to put the Slug Rack on your opponent every once in awhile. And then claim you didn't.

If you rack your own and get a bad rack, who can you blame?

If everyone treated the game with some Integrity we wouldn't be having these dress codes and Rack your own issues now would we.

Tails, I'll Rack! For Myself!!

I agree with racking your own. I was in Vegas in May and i liked it.

Overall I dont really give a F$^& who racks them as long as they are tight.

The only thing i found about Vegas that was annoying with Rack,Pay and Break your own were in the mini tournament. I won the flip for the first break. Then what everyone was doing was saying rack , pay and break your own(me included). So if you won the set you payed an extra buck for winning the flip and winning the set.
I guess its only a buck and i know i blew way more doing other things in vegas. But it did get my attention.

I vote in a big tournaments rack your own.

In little bar box tournys.. you better rackem for me!

Interesting what you say about the nine going in on the break - if you recall Earl Strickland's million dollar win (where he ran 11 racks) - he was, according to Billiards Digest Magazine, doing the racking - I don't remember how many times the nine ball went in on the break - but it was quite a few for 11 racks - Jackson

Winner breaks, and Rack your own has been very successful in California tournaments.

You always have the right to inspect any rack. I don't see what the problem is with this unless it is just personal preference.

Maybe it's an Arizona thing....

Racks

I really don't mind who racks, either player has option of checking it anyway. Be sure the 1 is close to the spot and balls are touching, less gaps in rear of rack preferred.
In the Desert Classic Tour, in Arizona, there is the rule: 9 in the back corners does NOT count. So this eliminates the need of checking every rack. If you make the 9 on break it just spots up and you continue shooting.
