Wishing Jimmy Reid a Speedy Recovery!

I discovered this post on SB website and thought I'd pass it along here on AzBilliards for friends and fans of Jimmy Reid.

Jimmy Reid has begun chemotherapy treatments and soon he will also begin receiving radiation in combination with the chemo. He has chemo once a week and the cost is $4000 per treatment! He has no health insurance due to Tennessee's State Funded Program being dissolved due to lack of funding. I guess the big oil companies profit margins, haliburton's no bid contracts, and the war we cannot win, are all more important than the health of US citizens. Anyway, the Drug Companies are helping out with some of the drug costs, but I know he has alot of unexpected expenses as a result...Jimmy went to Nashville in 1996 to take care of his ailing father. Jimmy's dad was a highly decorated WWII Vet who actually served in the SAME company as depicted in the movie "Saving Private Ryan" and was the Southeastern Heavyweight Boxing Champion. Jimmy's Instructional(s) are the best for your money on the market and he has brand new dvds titled "Almost All I Know" available on his website www.freepoollessons.com. If Jimmy Reid has helped your pool game and now you'd like to help him with whatever you can, you can PayPal any amount to jimmyreid@comcast.net ... he has friends who are trying to help with tournament fundraisers and the like, but I know he'd like it if you just bought his Instructional(s) and/or Join his Diamond Club on his website where there are hundreds of pages of graphics on ALL Games along with streaming media at EXTREMELY AFFORDABLE Prices. I think right now it's just $25 for a whole year which cannot be beat. He'll take money orders to his home address: Jimmy Reid, 101 Tudor Ct. Goodlettsville, TN 37072

Here's a Kodak moment at the 2004 U.S. Open. Rick from Arizona transformed this picture and named it "The Three Amigos." This is the .jpeg file in its original form: Billy Incardone, Keith McCready, and Jimmy Reid.

3 Amigos

I'm SO sorry to hear about Jimmy. He's a fighter, and with any luck he'll beat this thing. My thoughts are with him.

The photo is a classic..it just screams friendship. Just a GREAT photo.

Going to go ahead and post my version, since you mentioned it. It's one of my favorite images.

Get well, Jimmy!!

I noticed the address, I used to live in Goodletsville. My son lives there still, about 2 miles from where Jimmy is living. Small world...

Just a thought.....if anyone would like to purchase an 8 x 10 of this photo...I'll send ALL profits to Jimmy, and be more than happy to do so.

Or JAM....if you'd like to handle it...I'd be more than happy if they sent the $$$ to you...and you send it to him. Just so there aren't any questions...

Hippie Jimmy

I cant believe this thread died this fast. One of the great players, great gamblers, great characters in pool, Jimmy Reid, bad sick and so little response? Now I really feel old -- and he's much younger than me. Until Efren came around, Jimmy went unchallenged at 10 ball. The 3 greatest pay ball players were Keith McCready, Denny Searcy and Jimmy Reid. He could bet his own too. Get well Jimmy, I miss your big grin and your funny stories.

In 95-96 he had heart attack and two stents were put and he recovered very well and also he played very well in BCA Pro event in Lasvegas in ?2003 or ?2004.

The Jimmy Reid I know

I spoke with Jimmy two days ago and he was positive and upbeat. He is currently undergoing a new form of Chemo treatment. His docters think he has a good chance of recovery.

Jimmy and I ran together way back in the late 60's and early 70's. He was virtually unbeatable even then at 9-Ball or One Pocket. Only a champion could handle Jimmy as a 22 year old. When some good player would challenge him, he would just laugh and say come on. And step right to the table.

Jimmy just had no "back down" in him. In the 70's he was considered the best shotmaker in pool. In ring games he was deadly. He was always laughing and giggling when he was matching up. Like he was very very confident that if he played, what the outcome would be.

There is no top player alive who Jimmy hasn't beaten either in a tournament or gambling. Hippy Jimmy is alive and well in Tennessee. Still giggling too.

I had a chance to meet Jimmy at Valley Forge a couple of years ago. The guy is a pisser! Speedy recovery, Jimmy.

Jimmy's instructional tapes have done wonders for me.

Also, several years ago when I was looking into buying a new cue, Jimmy quickly and eagerly responded to an email of mine asking for his advice. I wasn't sure whether or not I would hear back, but sure enough then next day I had a note from him! I was so impressed.

Wishing him a successful treatment...

p.s. Anyone who hasn't read his stories really should do so, very enjoyable.

Here is an excerpt from my upcoming bk The GosPool According To The Beard:

BEST PAY BALL PLAYER ON A SNOOKER TABLE:
My money would go on "Hippie Jimmy" Reid. He loved shooting at hard shots. He specialized in long, off-angle combinations that were a goodly distance apart. He usually kept a silly smile on his face the whole session. He appeared to be enjoying himself so much in those games that after many hours of play, his enthusiasm began to discourage his opponents who were tiring of having to make tough shots and tough run-outs. Rumors of his having used artificial stimulants have been greatly underestimated.

Here's Jimmy's chauvinistic take on women. "Every night before we go to bed, I put the five ball and an orange on the dresser. When my girl-friend gets to where she can tell the difference, I get rid of her." That's my boy Jimmy.

Get well, brother!

Jimmy is a great guy. I spent several hours at his house last year with my father hanging out, playing, and getting some instruction. I'm going to send him a little something right now and tell old pops to look him up and help him out. Jimmy is a great guy, and we should all get together and send him a little something. I think that is what is so great about this AZ community. We get together and help out one another when times are down.
Best,

A guy at work is getting this treatment and so far he is doing ok after 7 years. I hope Jimmy does ok as well. :)

Jay, Keith spoke to Jimmy the other night too and said that, though he is suffering a little from the side effects of the treatment, he is in good spirits and is still able to giggle, like you said. :)

What is bothersome, to me at least, is that the way the current state of affairs are in the health care industry, people who are in need of life-saving medical care either cannot afford it or their insurance company doesn't cover the huge expense of some therapies. They are often given a choice of either one which has a high success rate, but costs thousands of dollars, or another one which is less expensive, but has a low success rate. What a choice to have to make when you are sick and in need. :(

I pray that Jimmy's huge spirit will carry him through these very difficult times up ahead, physically, spiritually, emotionally, and financially. With a little support from his friends in the pool community, even something so simple as a phone call or an e-mail to let Jimmy know he is in our thoughts, I think it would mean a great deal to him. :)

When Keith was asked to participate in a charity event a few years ago, there were some in the pool community who actually donated to the cause, wanting to show support. Jimmy Reid was one of those in the pool community who donated a full set of his instructional videos. It's time to pay it forward to Jimmy, and I am going to purchase a set of them myself and donate it to an upcoming event, just to show my thanks to a wonderful man who contributed to the enjoyment of my pool journey in life. There is only one Jimmy Reid, and I'm proud to consider him my friend. :)

:) Thanks JAM for bringing this to the forums attention, Jimmys videos were not only a big help for me, but were also quite entertaining to watch.

I don't know how close you are to him, but it's nice that you care.
