I have lost the two closest pool rooms to me this month! They both went under and I had to ask myself where is all the APA and BCA league players from those rooms going and what's the effect on the League Operator and league ECONOMICALLY???

It cant be good! Out of love for the game and not love of the almighty dollar! What's the leagues doing to help????????????????????

It seems they could have a traveling tournament circuit to help rooms out that are in trouble!!!!

They could send pro's to the rooms help give lessons to league members and help drum up business!!!!

If the room owners fail in your region then so does your league! It is amazing that the league MILLIONAIRES do not have enough business sense to recognize the symbiotic relationship they have with the success of the rooms they operate out of! Its just mind blowing to me and I wanted to open the topic up for expert discussion.

I think you all get my point of this post and I am just curious if I am alone in this line of thought?

In this area the league's are played in bar's so poolroom's closing doesn't affect them at all.

I also play in a league that held in a fairly large bar (dueling pianos downstairs, ten tables upstairs split between 7 & 8 footers) so it seems the financial risk is pretty well distributed.
I guess what you really need to figure out is how to drum up demand to keep the supply. Can we combine Hooters with pool? Guys will always love them some wings :)

In my area, internal leagues keep people in the pool rooms and keep them doing well.

You have found my secret plan for when I hit the Powerball.... Seriously, when daydreaming about what I would do were I to win a big lottery, that was one of my plans... Hooters and a pool room. Ah, daydreams...:p

It would be good practice on your mental game to shoot in a pool hall like that. If you can keep your concentration while shooting in a Hooters/pool hall you could definately keep your concentration in a tourney!

since it's inception , the APA has been geared toward the 'bar player' .
It's one of the reasons their championships are held on 'bar' tables.
They count on the teams/players "love of the game" to keep finding new host locations when old host locations close . Bars , fraternal lodges ( Moose , Elk , etc ), even retirement home rec centers - anywhere with tables can be a host location . Once played against a team in a church basement.
The APA claims to keep getting bigger every year - regardless of room closings , so it's 'not their concern'.

And in the region where I shoot , at least one strip club sponsors a team.
Yes , it's a distraction - but we learned to focus on the game!

No Problem in Central TX

We have leagues both BCAPL, ACS and APA.

They are all played in a mixture of bars and poolrooms.

The poolroom business is good and if a bar closes, it normally reopens under a different name within a short time.

We have plenty of players and places to play.
