with the long-running popularity of the predator bk cues

why hasn't anyone created a cottage industry out of turning them into break/jump cues?

i feel like the demand is there, and the idea would have been absolutely huge with the first two generations.

oh, well... i've just always been curious about it.

Probably because after spending $300+ on a break cue, they might feel silly spending $200+ to have it converted to a jump break.

Especially when there are really good jump cues available for under $100.

On this train of thought though, I have always wondered why someone hasnt converted a real car into a Decepticon. I am betting they are probably afraid it would build duplicates of itself and take over the planet.

Unless of course, someone converted a big rig into Optimus Prime....

pool players aren't always so rational when buying equipment: case in point, $800 production break cue.

i hold my position that someone could have been making at least $100 a pop with non-stop demand on the bk1 and bk2.

Actually at least one person I've seen mentioned on Facebook is doing this, which is Rick Wykoff of Bird Dog Custom Cues: https://b-m.facebook.com/RickWykoff17/

As far as I can tell only he's only being doing it with the newest BK Rush model with a Revo shaft, Note that Predator are not yet selling their own Revo version of a jump cue, and if they ever do I'm sure it won't cost under $200 dollars like their current model. So compared to that adding a jump joint to a BK Rush kind of almost makes financial sense given most of the cost is in the shaft rather than the butt.

Interesting.

So some people really are dumb enough to let someone cut a $700 cue (butt) in half, install a joint, and possibly need a refinish.

If for whatever reason I just HAD to jump with a revo shaft, I would opt for the, "Hey, could you build me a cheap jump butt with a radial/uni-loc pin."

Or for those who remember the days right before jump cues became popular, "Hey, would you thread the end of this 50¢ dowel rod for me...." ;)

But thats just me.

Break cues and jump cues have different requirements in order to perform well. Predator break cues do that job extremely well. They jump kinda crappy. BK3 is ok, BK Rush is actually pretty good for full cue jumps. But nothing compared to a real jump cue. The whole concept of a break/jump is a bad one. Maybe that's why. The thought of my BK cues being ruined in this way is not appealing in the least to me.

As someone mentioned in this thread, since I have a $700 break cue no way I'm spending another 150-200 to get it converted and possible ruin the cue all together. My crazy ass just decided to spend another 700 on a custom jumper

I had my BK III converted to a J/B. Cost me $75 which included return shipping cost. Was done by KJ Cues who was and maybe still is … an authorized Predator repair shop.

I loved it

No offense, but you might be studying the watch on this one. :)

Somehow I don't think the Predator BK's would make good jump cues. I tried an original BK shaft on a short Unilock butt and was unimpressed. I still have a BK2 shaft somewhere, so I could retry with that, but...Really, I can jump full cue with just about any cue/shaft, but if I really have to make a jump shot in an important tournament, I'd rather use a dedicated jump cue.

I still think all the Predator BK's are excellent break cues (other than the Rush, which I havent' tried).

You just have to know what you are doing. Plain and simple. Im happy to say that 30 years of being a high precision Tool and Die maker afforded me that.

Thanks, Rick Wykoff.
