WNT 2024 Hanoi Open (8-13 Oct), Winner $30K

How many asterisks are we going to add to this event given Filler, Albin and some of the world's best players are not playing? Just asking for a friend 😆 Anyway, I gave myself a 6 months ban from watching MR events. Good riddance to me.

i watched a little bit of a viet qualifying event, some players looked really strong. apparently one now beat kaci

A few strong Chinese players also qualified via. Peri Open, and the Hanoi qualifier

The kick to take the match from Kaci by the Viet lad was top draw - never seen Kaci look like he would cry before

I think the crowds will pick up as the tournament moves forward, especially if there are more Viet players doing well

My friend said the footfall was reasonable, but there's many games going on at once, and it's probably at a point where people are mingling around, as opposed to settling on one game to watch

Shane up 5-0, live now.

Efren just walked in to watch him.

Stands still empty. I know its 11AM there, and 2nd day of the event, but I would have expected more from the Vietnamese fans watching the most famous player of the last 15 years.

that is usually the case. if you can pick and choose, then why not.. two viet qualifier players are on the verge of upsets against oscar and zielinski respectively, that's probably drawing bigger crowds than svb pummeling a numpty

I don't know about that. At local pro-am type events, the crowd is always watching the visiting pro, even when they are playing a banger. Compared to watching the local hotshots in a match against each other.

The no-shows include Raga, Wu KL, Neuhausen, Pecelj, and Pehlivanovic. Morra is shown as losing 0-9 in the first round and then as a no-show for the second round (?).

Most of them were in Danang and HCMC, then left due to fear of sanctions

Side note - anyone watching the Ignacio game? absolutely reaks...
I wouldn't be surprised if it got investigated for Match/spot fixing. Abysmal standard.

no way this tran trung guy can fix anything. ok he was called in last minute to the TV table, but he plays 💩 ignacio wins 9-2 in his worst match ever

edit: no he dogged the 8. incredibly poor standard

About 10 years ago I thought Ignacio would be one of the big stars of the future. The game seemed so effortless to him. He won a pretty big event earlier this year (Indonesia International Open), but other than that -- not much. I'd guess there have been extenuating circumstances of some sort, but I am ignorant about his life. He's still just 32; maybe some more good things are ahead.

he has asthma or something similar. so had to be extra cautious during the pandemic. played good in the recent world championship though

No way an 809fr plays that shite...

i hear ya but when playing against a very poor opponent sometimes you loosen up too much / doesn't take it seriously. hoang's match was cancelled so they were called in last minute from a side table. so not much time for the funny business you're implying

I normally enjoy dodging work by watching, but that was painful. ended up doing actual work...

I'm watching the results of Styer, Dominguez and Thorpe carefully. Surely, two of them will join SVB, Gorst and Woodward on Team USA at the Mosconi and the Hanoi Open might just decide who will make the team.
