Yes, it is true that no woman has ever won a major men's event, but then again not very many women have played in such events. I agree with Bartram that they aren't on the same level, but if the top women played in all the top male events, one would probably win one eventually.

Yes, about four of them. She beat some guy named Rempe in the finals of one of them in 2003.
This will only be the second year that the ladies have been able to play in the US Open, right? And a bunch of the top players couldn't play last year due to a schedule conflict overseas...
Will a lady win one right away, probably not. But I bet the more men's tourneys they get to play in, the more frequently you'll see higher and higher finishes.

Back in 2000 or so, I use to play at the Billiard Cafe in Battle Creek, MI. The house pro then was Jayme Goodwin. I asked him about female players and he said that Allison Fisher would need the 4 from Earl! I don't know if he was exaggerating, but he didn't seem to be joking

Its all in the numbers. There is just far greater number of male pool players and male pool players that takes the game seriously. I would also like to see someone analyze the different factors in pool that relates to the differences between male and female such as muscular endurance and hand-eye coordination.
But honestly, its really just the numbers and the fact that women pro players compete at a lower competition which in turn hinders their improvement. But they also can't go ahead and try to join all the men's tournaments, because it wouldn't be worth their money.
Women pool has really improved a lot, and that's mostly in Asia and Europe. Taiwanese and Chinese pool players have probably improved the most and are really dominating female pool - throw GYK in there too, she really learned his professional pool game in Taiwan. But of course, these two countries offers the proper environment for professional pool - it doesn't pay much, but its a lot more stable than it is here.
