Does anyone happen to know what the won lost record between Efren and Earl during their primes say between 1990 and 2010?
This came up while talking to a friend this afternoon. Just wondering,,,

Earl did beat Efren in the 1997 US Open final. That was huge .
But, months before that , Efren beat him in their biggest match ever in Hong Kong .
Earl was once suspended for fighting the audience when Efren was beating him ( PBT days ).
Efren beat him in the US Masters. Year 2002 iirc.
I wouldn't be shocked if Earl is ahead in total head to head matches ( not counting exhibitions ).

Pretty sure Earl has a good lead on Efren on tournament match-ups. I also think that Efren winning at the Color of Money match was 100% Earl, which doesn't take away from Efren. Similar to Alex beating Shane in their first Race to 100 matchup, Shane fell apart mentally and physically. But at any given time of "who is the better player," Shane outclassed Alex by a mile. Shane certainly learned from it. I think Earl would have also learned from it and figured how to keep the pedal down. Efren was always an underdog in 9-ball to Earl

Earl's other major win over Efren was the live PBT World 9-ball Championship in... '94? Earl won so quickly that he killed the 'live pool' concept because they had to find how to fill the time. Notice, he was breaking with a carbon fiber cue (Graphite (r) ), which wasn't manufactured the same way as today filament-wound carbon fiber shafts. They weren't really the same material at all.

If I had the cabbage to spend (which I don`t) I would put my money on either Earl or Efren any day of the week & twice on Sunday.
These 2 are monsters at the game of pool, I don`t care who there playing. My money would be on them

Thay played a. Lot one of the first ones was the 1988 Tara open
And 1994 worlds was a big clash. Very one sided that one. The Color Of Money match from Hong Kong. and the famous z shot match at the sands regency.I think thay played each other, twice in that event. Thay where the two big ones, Of that decade. Apart from the 1997 one, already mentioned.
The last couple thay played was in 2005 us open (Earl won) and the 2006 IPT 8 ball (efren won)

when Earl was on during his prime playing 9 ball he remained a step above everyone including Efren
Ditto. Earl possessed a gear that nobody else had, not even Sigel. Needless to say, Earl didn't always find that gear, but no player beat champions into submission as often as Strickland.

Despite a few wins over Earl, Efren was really not in the same class at nine-ball as Earl. Efren is rightly remembered as the greatest all-around player that ever lived, and he is probably the best ever at both one-pocket and eight-ball, but he didn't mass produce nine-ball titles the way Sigel, Strickland and Varner always did.

I agree with the Color of Money match, Earl was beating Efren's brains in, I have not seen such a domination recently outside of the first Tar match between Shane and Cory where Shane was stringing 3-4-5 packs in 10 ball and stunned everyone including Cory into a coma. Earl just did the Earl thing and lost the will to finish. In the last day of the match in the interview he seemed to not even want to win, he said "he did not care if he won, Efren can still beat him, etc..."

They had an exhibition match at Steinway in 2014, 8, 9, and 10 ball on a 10 foot table. Nat a full tournament, just two legends battling.

W9B Earl 3 Efren 1
USO Earl 5 Efren 1
So my guess is Earl had better head to head over Efren in 9B tourneys
With his wins in W9B and USO, my guess also is Earl holds record for most majors in 9ball history. Even though the All Japan is the oldest big 9 ball event it only had strong international fields some years so hard to argue that it is a major and also in last decade converted to 10b . There are more 9 ball majors in last decade -China Open, International Open, UK Open, European Open. Kuwait Open was a big one but only lasted 1 year
