Curious what type of wood in my recently acquired Pat Diveney cue. I know the handle is ebony & someone called the forearm burl maple..

"curly" "tiger" "flame" "fiddleback" and "ringed" are all words that could be used to describe the figure here. It's maple. More specifically hard maple. Sometimes called sugar maple or rock maple. Yeah, the world of wood has a lot of names for the same or similar things. This also appears to have been dyed to enhance the contrast in the figure. It is not burl, however.
