Wood veneers (snake wood)

I wouldn't waste figured wood in an area where all you would see is redish brown. You will not be able do tell what the veneer was unless it was a recut and at least .125 to .250 inch not cut away. At this pint it is no longer a veneer.

Hope this helps

Snake wood is a small log, that is too brittle to be made into veneer with a knife edge splitter. It is really impermeable and couldn't be softened with hot water so it would crack all over as it curled off the knife. Sawing is another possibility but veneer sawing is something that died out 100 years ago and would be really wasteful. As a final consideration, there is a real scarcity of snake wood and there is no demand for the veneer.

I seem to remember seeing a cue picture with recut points but it didn't particularly stand out.

i did some snake veneers a couple years ago
it was a real bitttch to cut and sand them to thickness on my drum sander
very hard & very brittle
one snake veneer between the holly & black,
i think it was .075ish

1st pic, with sealer only shows it best

Thanks for the imput. Looking to find inlay wood with a really cool look for cue maker friend of mine. To put in the flat area of a hexigon handle. He does not use the Internet her uses catalogs and is amazed when I track down something new to him!

Wow the cue is gorgeous!

So you need inlay slabs, not veneers
Lots of places to get that.
Or cut yourself.
