World 10 Ball Silence

Personally, I have kept quiet about the payments since I was told that BSCP had tried to hush local newsmen regarding the late payment (hopefully not non-payment). If we make noise, then it will be easy for their sponsors to deny them the money. So okay, for the sake of the players, hush until the 30th.

But they should not be let off the hook for this irresponsible way that they promote events - inconsiderate of how they will bring down the whole pool community with them.

As for the reason why the players came despite warnings? Object ball end rail center dot, cue ball end rail center dot. Pool players will wager. It's the nature of our sport - the players simply gambled on the prospects of winning money despite the kind of preparations for the WTB. Some guys warned that the player executing the shot cannot even string up three consecutive balls. WPA simply whispered to the gamblers that this player taking the shot can actually execute it without problems.

Nice analogy....

OK so it is has beena bomb and another black-eye for pool. I do hope everyone is paid.

Where and when is the old reliable WPC 9 Ball ?

It's Oct. 30, 6:46 pm in Manila, banking hours is over. Anybody got paid in FULL yet? ANYBODY???

HELLO???

If the $2000 paid to the 4th place player (instead of $15000) were to be replicated throughout the prize fund then the total would be around $50000. Darren Appleton would get around $12000. Take off sanction fee
and withholding tax and he would be left with $7600.
Deduct about $3000 expenses and it leaves $4600 or in his own currencyabout ?3000.
Wu would break even and Niels would be dipping into his pension fund.

It might take 1- 2 days to fully transfer all funds, so maybe tomorrow or monday.

if the $$ is in the que it is transfered instantly, i wire $$ to Germany often and it is instantly there, no 1 or 2 days-that much time would only be necessary because someone hasnt given the bank the instructions.

It is a shame what has appeared to have happened, but hope is still alive and well in all victims of fraud(including me on a unrelated thing), and that hope is waht makes the perpitutors of fraud successful.

Wu and I were hanging out talking about cues last night. As of last night, Wu didn't receive a penny.

The late afternoon that we found out that Yen had successfully "bagged" that PAGCOR sponsorship (a few days before the WTBC), "Welcome to Manila" (read last 3 paragraphs!) was instantly posted in the AZ website and the WTB website was instantly updated with sponsors -- all in a matter of a few hours hours.

It would be off-character of Makabenta not to announce bank remittances one minute after sending the money.

But okay, let's say he did remit the money over before the banks closed today. The money should be in on the first banking hour on Tuesday at the latest. Sometimes there are delays because of the close monitoring of Central Banks of funding due to money laundering for drugs and terrorism.

So what will happen if Makabenta, Fenix, Barranda, Chua and Fajardo default by Tuesday?

Foreigners do have legal personality in Philippine courts as long as the crime was committed in the Philippines. Foreigners can also file a class suit in the Philippines as long as the foreigners had been victimized in the Philippines. An estafa (swindling) suit of more than three simultaneous complainants bears a status of "syndicated estafa", which bears heavier punishment.

But before filing the case, the complainant/s should first send a letter by registered mail asking for payment with a warning that continued non-payment will be brought to Philippine courts.

You can ask your Filipino friends to source lawyers who can represent you.

Players could call Raya now, and ask for receipt of payment? Right?

I guess that if they owed me money, and had failed to pay twice (2 weeks after the tournament, then the 24th), I would definitely call them and ask them to either email or fax a copy of the receipt immidiately, and warn them that if they failed to do so I would contact a lawyer...

As a player, I would also contact WPA and ask them to put pressure on Raya. I would also warn WPA that lack of payment would probably result in that they would receive a letter from my lawyer too, since they sanctioned the tournament + sent the statement in September saying that the tournament was a go and that there was a pricefond of 400 000 $.

Although this may not hold water in court, the WPA acted as the "guarantor" as their assurance that all's well at Raya's end
just before the start of the tournament was the push the players wanted to hear before they committed themselves to play...

Good point and now there is a suggestion that they should wait until
Monday/Tuesday.

All this will be swept under the carpet and in six months time it will be forgotten.

I think waiting until Tuesday can be accepted (assuming that the transactions were made today) because it's already a weekend. Processing on the receiving bank's side and difference in time zone (for applicable countries) might contribute to the time factor. Some of the transactions may have been made as the banks were closing for the day.

The main thing for me is that all the bank transactions (payments) should have been made today and the transfer of funds initiated and its is just a matter for the receiving banks to process the transaction/s. As long as actual funds are being sent in full, maybe the organizers can still somehow say that they were able to deliver (based on their announcement).

Otherwise... they've blown their chance.

Hey Doug- Sure if the payments are made, all this delay will be forgotten but if everyone is stiffed, I guarantee it wont be forgotten.

So is the WPC9 Ball offically dead? I guess i dont really understand what is going on. Why cant Matchroom do their thing? They are very good at it.
