World 10 Ball Silence

Nobody, I don't think, is condoning dumping.

However, unless you are wearing blinders, this activity has been happening for centuries in all sports.

Pool may have experienced this activity as well, but it does not mean that this activity is the reason for pool's demise in the United States. If that theory was true, then there would be no PGA, MLB, NBA, NFL, et cetera.

I never said it was THE demise for pool in the U.S., but its a big reason why sponsors do not want to invest in it.

Furthermore, the only way for you to know for sure if there was, in fact, actual blatant dumping in a pool competition is if you were a party to the dumping.

Otherwise, it's only conjecture on your part. :)[/QUOTE

I have never robbed a bank, but I know it happens.

It seems that this thread has not accomplished it's goal and some players are still waiting for their prize money.

According to a source close to the players, the Chinese Taipei prize winners are still awaiting payment. These include Wu whose share is $40000.

There were a further 14 CT players who reached the paid section of the draw and these amounted to a further $29000 if they are all unpaid.

2 @ $4500
2 @ $3000
4 @ $2000
6 @ $1000

Perhaps the APBU could throw a little light on the matter.

Doug,
I was hoping that the payment problem had been resolved. It is sad that ANYONE should still be owed money, let alone one of the fastest growing groups of pool players in the world.

Please keep us informed if you hear that they all got paid.

(Don't know who the APBU is.....)
Thanks,
JoeyA

The APBU are the Asian Pocket Billiard Union, the continental federation who are members of the WPA.

They are supposed to represent the Asian (which includes the Filipino
and Taipei players).

But the players pay sanction/affiliation fees to these bodies but have no support in matters like this.

Nice to hear from you Joey

Following my little meeting in Manila, Ian Anderson handed me his card and told me to contact him next time I had a question about anything concerning the WPA. I took him at his word. A few days ago, I sent him an e-mail and asked him what the WPA was doing about this problem with pay outs from the WTBC. He has yet to answer me.

In reading the above excerpt from the constitution of the WPA, it would appear that this is a glaring case of "just cause" for the WPA to intervene and take action of some kind. The WPA worked hand in hand with Raya in producing and directing this event. It could almost be concluded that it was a joint effort. At this point in time, they cannot miraculously separate themselves from this evolving problem.

The silence of the WPA now is deafening. Where are they now when the players so desperately need them? Why do we not hear anything from their offices? They should be in the forefront demanding action by Raya and prompt payment of overdue prize moneys. And Ian, wherever you are, I would be saying this to your face if I could.

I wrote the above on Nov. 6, 2008. It referred to e-mails I had sent to Yen Makabenta and Ian Anderson on Oct. 31, one week previously. Today I received a phone call from Ian informing me that he in fact did respond to my e-mail the next day. He then forwarded it to me again today and it came through okay this time.

What happened to this e-mail back on Nov. 1, I have no idea. I guess the internet is not a perfect system and an e-mail can get lost or dropped for some reason. Rare but it happens. I made the mistake of assuming that Yen and Ian were choosing not to respond to me. I still have yet to see a reply from Yen.

I told Ian that it is possible that some of the players (from Chinese Taipei) have yet to be paid. He was under the assumption that everyone had been paid. I am sorry if I made a mistake in saying that Ian had not responded to my e-mail. That may not have been the case. I still believe the WPA has some responsibility in looking into allegations of unpaid prize money, especially so if it is a tournament they have sanctioned.

According to the report, Wu Chia-Ching and Yang Ching-Shun have still yet to be paid. Wu said maybe he will go to the Philippines to hold the press conference to strive for his rights. It is indeed a shame to the filipino and WPA.

He could have done it while he was here for the QC vs World but didn't. I salute him for his tact. I guess he enjoyed his stay here at the time and decided not to dampen the festive mood all around him. If he so desires to return for such a reason then he's got our support. I'm sure that the POC and PSC will listen to him and even hold the presscon for him. If not, we will.

We still don't see where the funds, to pay-out, will come from.

If anyone here can get word to Wu tell him that all he needs to do is fly here and he can stay at the Manila Hotel or the Peninsula for 3 days on us. Or stay here in Quezon City and party with us too. He's got Taiwanese friends here who can translate for him. Just confirm arrival and he's booked.

Forget the above offer. It's now "ALL EXPENSES PAID" to include airfare! Let's get this issue over with.

i just hope that these rare and sad occurrences do not affect the filipinos as a whole. i vehemently hope that this be resolved the soonest. i am a filipino and am proud to be. misgivings by a few does not speak for us as a whole.

Verified!!!

11 January 2009, VERIFIED from Wu's Manager. Wu Chia Ching and Yang CS HAS NOT RECEIVED their WTBC Prize Money!!

What about the other 14 Taiwan players and the mainland Chinese - have they all been paid yet?

I'm sure we will find out soon after Wu and Yang holds that press conference here.

Let me pose my other questions on this thread instead of in the other one.

Good chance that Mr Overbeck will see this post then.

My question is simple and just for verification. Mr Overbeck, did YEN Makabenta of RAYA/BSCP pay the 5% or US$20,000.00 WPA Sanction Fee?

If so, how can WPA accept the $20k when not all the prize monies, that the 5% comes from, hasn't been paid yet?

Will WPA pay the unpaid prize monies specially with their pronouncements in "WPA quells rumors" article?

thats terrible

If true...

people responsible should pay and be made to answer for their actions

I was told that they promised (again) to pay Wu and Yang last Friday 23 Jan 2009. We will call and confirm from Steven if the payment was received. I doubt this very much because I heard that Yen only has 120k Pesos in collectibles and Wu and Yang's prize money is close to 2.3M Pesos.

If the Pinoys here want to see the "deep inside reason" for the debacle check http://forum.bilyar.net/viewtopic.php?p=25615#25615. If you feel like translating .....
