probably no-one is watching,

but today on the austria eurotour, the world champion Daryl peach got kicked out of the tournament.

after his first loss in the second round, he faced Pascal budo from belgium on the tv table. Budo won his match vs daryl 9-4, and kicked the world champion live out of the tournament. :D :D

Serge das from Belgium is playing foldes on the winnerside for qualification

COMON guys!!!

Stepanov, Konstantin also lost his first 2 matches and is out too. These eurotours are EVIL !. 256 players and all can play ! you are never sure to finish into the last32 thats why i love it so mutch.

drago, alcaida, etc..also are on the one loss side, and has to win his next 3 matches to qualify for L32

For a current World Champ, we sure don't hear much about him. I mean does he gamble? Has he won any tournies recently? He doesn't seem to be making much noise or at least convince the critics that he's the real deal.

My understanding is that he does not gamble. That does not make him less of a player, IMO though.

I think he was a fluke in the WPC...

PLease to elaborate...a resume/ CV will do.

I can't speak english very well, so I will elaborate with the modest vocabulary I have :)

Overrated? Who said that he was a pool god or a legend? All I know is that he is a great pool player, a current world champion. He won his tittle with class, his strong safety play and mental game have really impressed me. He has got nothing to prove and I will not be surprised if he wins other major tournaments.

For my CV... I'm just a modest pool player who can put some racks together. I play pool since 18 years ago and follow with passion what is going on in the pool World... that's all;)

No polemic...

Why always comimg with the gambling argument??? Here is a quote of one of Daryl's post from another forum where he explain his point of view about gambling.

"... (i myself am not interested in money games...
I Just feel that money games may be holding our sport back, thats why its branded as "hustlers sport" etc etc......i mean you never see Federer challenging Nadal to a money match!...
When everyone realises that maybe we might get some bigger sponsors to look at our sport!"

... "Dont get me wrong mate (note : Appleton), i understand why players play for cash, and its a skill in its self to play for cash....unlike tournament play, and i totally admire players who do it.
I was just saying that that image is not the best for the sport to grow tournament wise i mean."

For the fluke... you are right, he certainly is the luckiest man on earth :D

Geeesh, sometimes I fluke a ball... this guy has fluked a championship, a WORLD Championship !

LOL tough crowd. Win a world championship. "Hey, what have you done lately?" :D

I'd agree that there are better players overall but nonetheless his accomplishment in 9-ball under those conditions and his mental game were top-notch at the time.

No matter what people think about Daryl, he is a WORLD 9-BALL CHAMPION, and he won the largest World Championship ever organized, based by countries registered. Not only that, but he won it IN the Philippines, against a Filipino!!!

Besides from that Daryl Peach has won the World Masters, he has a high run of 336 in 14-1, he has won an Eurotour (the hardest of them all, in Germany).

Apart from the World Championship Daryl is most proud of the day when he won the IPT Tour Card, which was in a qualifier in The Netherlands with 92 top players.

He says that the US Open is one of the hardest tournaments he has ever played, and that he rates his 5th in the US Open as one of his greatest achievement.

Anyway, Daryl Peach is a member of AZ, perhaps he will let us know what he thinks :)

Daryl is one of the top players in Europe, and he can play both 9-ball, 8-ball and 14-1 at a very high level.

Will he win another major title? Time will show...

I've never seen Mr. Peach play in person. Don't know much about him. Frankly, I'd hafta get good odds to bet on him in any fast company. I have heard that he plays many games at an extremely high level however.

That having been said. Word is that one very humble Filipino World Champ vastly prefers to play on OPM (other people's money). If he plays on his own, he usually pulls up after losing two barrels. He DOES rarely lose two barrels :D ...Tom

To dog Peach is just wrong.

I admit I was cheering the other way, at first, in the WPC 2007. But, I can't help but applaud Daryl for his poise and steady play. Nothing crazy or eye-catching...but nonetheless he came out on top. You can't take that away from him....and my honest opinion is that ANY male pro is capable of beating ANYBODY at ANYTIME.

I was actually very happy for him when he won....I thought/believe he deserved it. He's been a mainstay on the scene for a while...and he is versaile and can play different games well. I love the filipino players...but sometimes they are over-hyped, but those are the fans/medias fault. We all are human afterall, so it's just wrong to say that winning the WPC was a fluke. Either Gomez or Peach would've won...now would people say it was a fluke if Gomez won? No - why cause he is filipino? Cause filipino=good player=champion??? Thats just stoopid...I truly believe that Gomez "didn't" deserve to win.

Just like Alex "didn't" deserve it in 2003 when he lost to Thorsten.....but he proved to be a true fighter/champion coming back the next year and and "deserved" the win in 2004 - watch the tapes.

Well done Daryl, congrats on your acheivements whatever they may be. Best wishes in the future and for the rest of your career.

Phoebe Choy (btw, I am half filipino so this is a very un-biased perspective)

Peach vs. Superman

If Darryl Peach does read here, I would like to order a copy of his match with Superman. I ordered it and paid for it from Matchroom, but they sent me some team competition instead and didn't respond to my emails re the error. So Darryl I need your help to own that great match!

It's no secret that I have been a Gomez-fan since I met him, and first saw him play in January 2007. I watched all of Gomez's matches in the World Pool Championship, except the final against Peach.

I have to admit that I really hoped that it would be Roberto Gomez - Fransisco Bustamante in the final last year, and I honestly thought it would be so. Django played outstanding in all his matches, and in money matches at One Side prior the tournament and during the group stages he was almost untouchable. Roberto was in the front pages of lots of newspapers in Manila after not only beating top foreign players, but not even giving them a chance. He beat Niels Feijen twice (9-6 and 11-0), Alex Lely 11-1, F.P. Chao 11-6, Karl Boyes 11-4 etc... He played some of the best 9-ball I have ever seen, and only a few of his matches was played on the tv-table where he could use the soft-break. Roberto has one of the hardest breaks in the Philippines, only beaten by a few. (De Luna, Django).

I entered the venue just seconds after the controversial kickshot from Django on 10-9, race to 11, where he kicked for the three, and the 9 went in to the top corner.

Daryl Peach showed HEART when he managed to focus on the last 2 racks. He got ball in hand on the 3 ball, with hundreds of crazy Filipinos wanting him to miss. Everyone could feel the tension in the arena during those 2 last racks, and Peach knew that if he missed there would be hundreds of spectators cheering like they had won the Championship. It was like that in the arena. 99 % of the spectators believed that the call from Nigel (ref) was wrong, and they were expecting that God would make Peach miss.

Peach managed to run that rack, then stay focused and break and run the next rack for a 11-10 victory over F. Bustamante.

If anyone ask Peach I am pretty sure that he will say that those 2 racks was the most difficult racks he has ever played, because of the circumstances.

I am not a fan of Daryl Peach as a player, I don't find him entertaining. I like him as a person, he's very nice, got class and is a funny guy, and after the World Championship, I respect him as a great cueist after what he did in the match against Bustamante.
