World Championship 9 Ball live now

yes the audience seems pretty large... surprising.
Very sad watching Efren plays this way... He looks very uncomfortable, lot of body movements ecc

I was thinking the exact same thing. I hope he settles down. The breaks sure aren't helping him either. I wouldn't say that it is sad though. It happens to everyone from time to time...

(I can live with the camera work. It's better than the typical stream but not up to the very high standards of the BBC or Matchroom's productions.)

V. makes the wing ball (8) breaking on the right side of the table. Efren has been breaking from the left.) But he doesn't get balls up table!! Efren takes over due to the "soft break" rule. The table is runnable. Efren struggles and misses a very makeable 6 ball.

V. starts with a fairly easy shot on the 6 and gets out to lead 7-3.

I wish I knew what they are going to.

I think there are a lot of Filipinos in the audience as there are a lot of guest workers in the Gulf area.

Trailing 3-7, Efren breaks and makes a ball but no shot. Safe but no hook.

V. safes but leaves an edge visible. Efren nicks it and takes the cue ball down table.

V. has an easy kick and places the 1 well but Efren slices it along the end rail. He continues with a great shot on the 2 with precision position. No problem visible at this point. Straight in on the 9 ... the crowd erupts. Efren trails 4-7.

Since I've never seen a Matchroom production I'm at a disadvantage, but I'm loving the picture quality and camera work. Very nice, at least to me.

Villamor leads 7-4 and will break. He check the rack. Breaking from the right side... The 2 ball is always in back. The wing 4 ball goes straight in. The cue ball ends up nearly stuck to the 1 pointed back to the rack area. A thin hit for a safe that leaves Efren a window, but Efren misses and leaves a hanger.

V. starts with a stretch. No, he changes over and shoots right-handed (he's a lefty). Has a slightly tricky shot from the 6 to the 7 but plays a nice finesse draw for the simple path.

Over runs the shot to the 9 but plays it in the side. (The 9 usually remains in the rack due to the Magic Rack.)

Efren breaks from the left side. Has a shot on the 1 but runs into the 9 and leave a partial hook on the 2 which is on the end rail. Hesitates several times getting down on the shot. Finally thins the 2 and takes the cue up-table. V. is looking at a two-rail hit -- he gets a good one but leaves Efren straight into the side. No obvious problem on the table. He gets a little off-angle on the 6 and slaps the table. He plays a nice slow roller stopping the cue ball within an inch of perfect. Easy shot to finish and Efren trails by 5-8 going to 11.

Villamor breaks from the right side. The wing ball (3) flies straight into the center of the pocket as 1 and cue come up-table. No straight shot, but an easy bank gets V. on an easy 2 to the side. The rack looks run. And it is -- V. leads 9-5 and it looks bad for the old master.

Efren breaks from the left and the wing ball (yawn...) goes in. He fails to get two balls over the line though and V. comes to the table looking at a cross-side bank on the 1 or a safe. The bank goes but he's hooked on the 2 which is hung in a foot pocket. He's up for a masse... perfect! And straight on the 3 as a reward. Again, the rack looks done but he's got to clear them. Slightly over plays the 5-7 shape and had to go to a cushion he didn't want to use. Leaves himself tough on the 9 with the cue on the cushion but finds the center of the pocket. V. is on the hill and Efren needs 6 and/or a doctor.

V. is on the hill, 10-5. He checks the rack and the referee tightens some balls by nudging them with his thumb. V. breaks from the right side. The wing ball (3) by some miracle goes straight into the corner pocket. The 1 and cue come up table for a very easy start. V. threads his way down to the foot rail where the 2 is waiting and gets straight in. A stop shot leaves the 4 long but straight. No obstacle evident. A nice outside draw shot on the 8 and the cue ball spins back to the rack area for a straight-in on the 9. Game and match to Caneda Villamor, 11-5 over Efren Reyes.

Aside from the rampant wing balls disappearing the production of this is awesome, almost as good as TAR ;) The lighting is perfect, not too bright and not too dark. Some of the close up shots of the players look really great. Thanks for the link!

Villamor in the interview said he stayed focused and got lucky. This was the first time he had played Efren. The audience was with Efren as he expected when playing the long-time top player.

Commentators

It may seem to some that the commentators are talking too much but it may simply be a custom of the commentators in that part of the world and may be what local customs require.

I enjoyed the interviews which were in English.

Maybe the promoters could fly Jay and I in next year to give the other commentators a rest every now and then.

As for the sponsors, Exxon/Mobil and Coca Cola.............WOW! Let's keep our fingers crossed. I wonder what their sponsorship amounted to?

Maybe some of our people overseas can tell us some details of the sponsorship.

The commentators seem to be very relaxed and enjoying the tournament. I am too.

CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS to the Qatar promoters for streaming this event.

I thought I kept reading Marlon Caneda.
