Just a passing thought...although there are "world championship" tournaments, if it's not feasibly accessible to everyone, is it still a "world championship"?

That is a dumb question
That is like saying the boxing, soccer and any sports world championship before age of TV are not world championships .
You have embarassed yourself . Let us pretend you are drunk and just passing by:grin:

World Championships are not the same as Opens. Opens should be 'open' to everyone. World championships should only be accessible to players that have proven themselves either by being the best in their country, by doing well in other international level tournaments, or by going through a qualifier.

I'm thinking along the lines of IPT. It was a pretty good format, and it drew players from out of the woodworks with the prize money. It's just too bad pool doesn't have the same money as golf.

Well, you are not gonna get.too many people here to disagree with that. We like pool too.

That is quite different from your first post though. And didn't it cost most folks 2k to play the ipt?

when you say "not feasibly accessible to everyone", do you mean like the US
that have strict visa requirements? i mean, almost any country in the world is accessible by plane, unless it's war-stricken.

Pool has a lot of bogus world champions. All it seems to take is for the promoter to use the name "World championship" in the title of the tournament and it will appear on a players resume as "World champion" if they win.

This is not to say these are great players but come on. The guy wins a tournament with a hand full of players and calls himself a world champion. I was at a One pocket tournament billed as a world championship with 16 players.

It was actually an impromptu tournament put on during another bigger tournament. The term "World champion" is cheap when it comes to pool.

I don't think it is so dumb. You take say Mosconi like 75 years ago winning a world championship. Some of those were tournaments that took months to play and were played in different cities with a ton of top sponsored players playing.

If you emerged the winner of one of these things you have really done something. A little different then say winning a weekend double elimin. tournament with 32 players billed as a world championship like today.

World Championship tournaments must have a field of atleast 32 players and 100k in prize money ,,
