World Cup of Pool, Pick 'em Challenge

Just for fun, let's see how well we can pick the Matchroom World Cup of Pool (like a traditional NCAA Basketball pool). I'll do the scoring.

Rules:

1) One entry per login name
2) Complete the entire bracket (see below) in one post and do not edit.
3) Points allocation: One point for correct Round One matches, then doubling per round. Thus, a correct pick in the finals is worth sixteen points.
4) Entries must use the name of the countries, not the players.
5) Entries must be in the format provided below the bracket, to make this easier for me.
6) Entries are due before the first match begins.

One and only bump.

Final
Great Britain ‘a’ against Canada: either way, the Queen wins.
Winner Great Britain.

I assume the Canadians are UK residents? Aren’t there quarantine issues?

Obviously the last minute changes in the lineups didn't help and if we had money on the line I would just return it. But since it is for fun we might as well score it the best that we can.

Eleven points: Me, BRussell
Ten points: justnum
Nine points: sjm, BeiberLvr

None of us saw Slovakia, Italy, Denmark or Kuwait getting through round one.

All of us had Russia, Japan, Greece, Netherlands, Germany, USA, Philippines, and Great Britain A.

My champion is already out, but I'm enjoying all the upsets, and Slovakia is actually playing some really good pool. Based on what I've seen so far, Netherlands looks the team to beat, but anyone can catch a stroke at a moment's notice, so it's anybody's guess.

Incredible how fast our picks were decimated.

Nobody scored more than 4 points (two correct picks) in the second round. Germany was the obvious choice( 4/5 of us had them) and none of us had Slovakia, Japan, GBC, Denmark, or Estonia.

Fifteen points: Me
Fourteen: justnum
Thirteen: BRussell, sjm, BeiberLvr

And with the third round in the books:

Eighteen: justnum
Seventeen: BeiberLvr
Fifteen: Me
Thirteen: BRussell, sjm

Only BeiberLvr and justnum had Germany. Everything else was a blank.

That's that. With nobody picking Great Britain C (a last-minute addition) or Germany to make the final, we are concluded with our scoring.

Hopefully in a post-Covid world we will have greater clarity on which players will be on the teams and which teams will actually be able to play, and we can get more members to take a shot at picking. But in the short term I think that we learned this event is incredibly hard to pick.

Hindsight being 20/20 does GB C really surprise anyone?

I would like ask Mike Page and Fargo how they would have predicted this tournament to unfold...?

Is it streaming for free anywhere? I don't really want to subscribe to DAZN just for this match.

i think i called them washed up has-beens and predicted that they wouldn't get past 2R. so yes, surprised me. but of course the real surprise is the poor performance of the top pros. it wasn't a good look for pool.
