Rodney Morris speaks from the heart
Many years ago, in 1988, a man who later became like a Father to me, told me something that directed the course of my life. I had just graduated High School miraculously, and I was playing pool for about a year already, but it was summer, and since I didn't turn 18 until November 25th, I had to wait to go into the Air Force, which is what I wanted to do because my grandfather on my mothers side was an Air Force Pilot.......As I'm waiting around, I'm playing pool more and more, and making a ton of money, 50k in a week kinda money! I was quickly becoming the prodigy of Hawaii and everyone could see it. As the time was coming when I had to go to the Air Force, I was torn between this game that was making me a lot of money, or an unknown career. So I was asking for advice and trying to see what the older guys would tell me to do. The biggest thing that stuck with me, and the sentence that I'll never forget, was when my friend said, "It doesn't matter what you choose to do in life, as long as you enjoy it, and do it well." Those were the words that made me make the decision to be a pool player. It was what I thoroughly enjoyed immensely, and I'm pretty sure I've been doing it quite well lol........Granted, he never told me I was destined to only be a thousandaire playing pool, or I might've thought differently haha. But I honestly have no regrets in my choice. I'm reflecting upon this as I'm getting ready to step away from the game and change careers after this year. Not for any reason other than, it's just time to move on to something different. I don't have the buzz I had for it like I did twenty years ago. I can't win a match or a tournament and make myself any bigger or happier because of it. Now it's time to challenge myself in another field and go for Hall of Fame there too lol. Oh, and stack up cash like Pablo Escobar did, only legally and with less victims lol
