Looks like Shane and Tyler are representing America. Anyone have any specifics on this event or how it will be ran?

Cues sports (snooker, carom, pool) will all be contested in the same venue from 7/13-18 in the Sheraton Birmingham hotel.

Pool means nine-ball to most of the world, and this is no exception. In the past, it has been single elimination races to 11 for the men and single elimination race to 9 for the women.

In the pool, the men's defending champion is Carlo Biado and the women's defending champion is Siming Chen.

Tyler said they are only playing 9 ball, sitting out Snooker and Carom.
Each competitor plays in only one of the three disciplines.

The four tournaments with 16 players are each run as single elimination. There are four tables, two pool, one carom and one snooker, so there is one match from each tournament going on in each round. The four finals are spread out, though. The four tournaments are:
Men's 9-Ball
Women's 9-Ball
Snooker
3-Cushion

The Snooker was mixed last time in Poland, but this time it is just men.

Here is a previous thread about the 2022 World Games:

Is there any live streaming from the stands/venue? The way it was from Qatar, where locals were using smartphones set up on tripods? I think we should check Carlo Biado's YT channel, as he was streaming his matches at least from latest 10-Ball Worlds. Any streams on FB maybe, someone is aware of?

Meanwhile, I decided to add a link to official "TV" schedule (Bob Jewett provided the same before in another thread):

Tyler plays Filler in round 1 so it could be a quick tournament for half of the USA squad if it really is single elimination…

Other than the few matches in your link, I haven't seen any mention of streaming. My kids' weekly rec sports have better streaming coverage than most pool tournaments. Too bad as there are some awesome matchups at these World Games.

True. I guess the WG organizers are not to blame here, as there are so many sports presented, so hard to give air time to every single one of those. At the same time IWGA could have given green light to respective federations, so that if a particular match is not at the official TV channel (WG/Olympic channel) then it is free to be streamed over the internet. This way the fans of every sport woulda been happy, after all World Games happen only once in 4 years.

Having typed the above, I'm even more stunned it is not obvious for them in modern era of broadcasting and all the possibilities (and demand, I believe).

I agree. I would think every sport (not just billiards) would be pushing for this as without timely video content it's like the event never happened. For billiards this is trivial as the playing field can be easily captured with a smartphone on a tall tripod.

Any AZBers have a report on the world games? Filler mentioned on FB he came from behind to beat Styer and posted a brief shot of the arena. It looked like there were maybe 10-20 spectators.

I noticed earlier that Tyler was up 9 to 4 over Filler, then Filler became Filler and went on a 7-1 run to beat Tyler 11 to 10.
We've got Ouchan vs Biado, and SVB vs Filler coming up in the top half of the final-8 bracket on Friday. Stacked indeed!

20 spectators watching one the of top 3 players in the world (FargoRate based), and no any trace of streaming whatsoever.

Are we talking about a competition which is analogous to the Olympic Games for the sports that are not there???

Doesn’t look like they could accommodate many spectators. I wish I was there just to watch the 3-cushion…big talent.

Agreed. Perhaps the world games are just an invisible show for the various national sports federations so they can feel like they wisely used whatever government money they are allocated.

I'm less than a three-hour drive away and never even knew it was going on. I might have considered a trip down. I still might, although that hotel is pretty pricey. The ticket itself is only $20 for a day (although, that's before ticketmaster fees, so who knows the final tally).

The top half of the 3-cushion draw is loaded……Zanetti has to be favoured from the bottom half..

If the World Games is held in the woods and nobody is there to stream it, did it really happen?

Whoever is courting the IOC is responsible for producing the press packets for pseudo Olympic level news.

World Games are happening but WPA needs fans to show in person and cyber support.

Does the WPA have a phobia of endorsing a promotion team for the greatest billiard players from around the world?

Does the WPA control rights to player interviews for pre and post matches? Any messaging from the World Games is better than the traditional pool room promos.

Even a coordinated social media trend would be sufficient.
