World Pool Championships - Updates

I think this will give him a big boost and he will be the player to beat in the future.....he is gonna destroy them all....

Bustie has always been tough to beat. You are right, though, that this will definitely be a confidence booster. He may be unstoppable from here.

After Alex won the WPC, he then won the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship right after that.

It would be interesting to see how Bustie does at the Open this year. ;)

It's always been this way.

Though some loathed the IPT and everything associated with it, it was a MULTI-MILLION-DOLLAR payout. Some people actually did get paid big bucks, the most in the history of all of pool.

There was not one mention of the IPT and its million-dollar payouts in the American media. But you can be sure that the lawn mower races and the hot dog eating contests were broadcast nationally on ESPN all across the United States while pool players were competing for millions of dollars.

There was a news-bit about the Coney Island hot-dog eating contest this AM. Something about a 6-time winner crashing the event due to them blocking him. He didn't sign a exclusive clause contract for an eating contest league. They actually have prize money for these things!

Just $36,000? Pagulayan I think won $75,000 in Taiwan. Prices are becoming less and less. Bring it back to UK or Asia.

36000 1st
18000 2nd
.......

At the IPT King of the Hill in Orlando, FL in December 2005, Bustie came in third place, I think it was. He scored $80,000. He told me that at that time, that was the largest payout he had ever won in a pool tournament.

I'm sure this win, if he wins it, will be sweeter. Sometimes it's not about the money when it comes to pool. It's the bragging rights!

I read that. That was so funny. The hot dog champion's agent wouldn't let him compete in other events or something like that, poor fellow. :o

Well, the U.S. would be a nice place to have one, but it will never happen with our BCA. They're experiencing financial difficulties and may not be able to afford the WPA sanctioning fee. :(

thats because it was organized by matchroom back then... these guys in the middle east don´t have too much money i guess....maybe they sell more oil next year....they could pay a million for first and wouln´t even realize it in the pocket...

sure he got the 80 K ????

Jose told me that he won the first world pool championship ever in Japan. It was not hosted by Matchroom Sports back then, but all the same, Jose Parica claims to have the first championship. Ask him about it if you ever get the chance to chat with him! :)

JAM, he told me the exact same thing.

Yes, he did. That was the first event. Everybody got paid. In fact, the BCA Hall of Famers got paid $20,000 just for showing up, without ever hitting a ball as well as THREE BYES in the tournament. Efren won. I don't think he needed the three byes.

No he couldnt participate unless he signed a contract to only compete in one organization's events. Sound familiar?

Im guessing that organization has few if any events in Japan.

He is out of jail now but i wish they would drop the charges completely.

OMG! That does have a familiar ring to it: U-P-A
