There is no basis for complaint with respect to SVB.

SVB is presently the 30th ranked player in the world based on the Matchroom World rankings, established upon the onset of the 2019 International 9-ball in October 2019. As SVB well knows, it is these rankings that govern Matchroom invitations and seedings going forward.

The ranking points for those that got a bye in the World Pool Masters:

David Alcaide 53
Alex Kazakis 70
Naoyuki Oi 83
Jayson Shaw 92
Fedor Gorst 103
Max Lechner 79
Josh Filler 76
Albin Ouschan 105

Shane has just 33 ranking points, and therefore has no claim to a bye. He shot himself in the foot when he skipped the Predator Championship League Pool event. Had he played in it, and earned more than 20 ranking points, which he'd have done had he reached the second stage (which would have been near certain), he'd have more ranking points than Alcaide and would be getting a bye here rather than David. Actions have consequences, even Shane's.

Thanks for the explanation. Rules are the rules, we all know SVB is not the 30th best player in world. Hopefully he takes this tourney down yet again.

And some players take the other view about byes-- they would rather not have a bye. Of course you have to get by an extra opponent, but you have the extra play on the table before the second round while your opponent will be be colder.
Agreed, Bob. Sometimes the extra play proves to be an advantage.

Yeah, that would be nice if he wins the WPM, and his Matchroom World ranking would skyrocket, ensuring favorable placement in the next few Matchroom events that are seeded. Wish him good luck.

Hi. Maybe I missed it , but why were there two bags that the balls were being drawn from. Was that the next two brackets of seeding?

The two bags were to separate the 16 players in prelim round. The top 8 players of the 16 (based on Matchroom rankings) in one bag and rest in other bag. This is so that the top players will not play each other so early in prelim round and will play a lower ranked player.

Yes, SVB and many top guns also played prelim round in 2019 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_World_Pool_Masters#Main_draw

they have posted the order of play. Starts Saturday at 12:30 eastern. They even held SVB's first match to the second session Sunday (bumping Filler's match up early) rather than having him finish off with the rest of the "preliminary" matches.

Here's something kind of strange. Matchroom's World Pool Masters website links to a Cuescore bracket for the matches. On that bracket, the matches are scheduled at 45-minute intervals, all on the same table. All 23 matches in the event will be streamed on that same table. The format for this year's event is essentially the same as the format used last time for this event, in March of 2019. (The only difference I see quickly is that the semifinal matches last time were races to 8, but will be races to 7 this year.) In 2019, the number of matches that ended in 45 minutes or less was .......... (drum roll) .......... ZERO. The average length for the 20 races to 7 in 2019 (including all the commercial breaks) was 70 minutes.

So, for anyone planning out his time for those 4 days and wanting to watch all the matches, do not plan for the 4-match sessions to be over in 3 hours and the 3-match sessions to be over in 2 1/4 hours.

Strange. In local tournaments I used to figure 45 minutes average for a race to six and that was with no one better than about 700 in the tournament. It was with larger pockets, though.;)
