World Straight Pool - Backer needed

Hi, I just found out that I've been invited to the World Straight Pool Championships again. The bad news is the late notice means a) I am struggling to get time of work and b) I've just moved into a new place in London so it's not a great time financially! :(

Why sponsor me?

There are six weeks to go to the event and I would practice my heart out to ensure I was well prepared. Whenever I've been backed in the past I actually found myself trying harder for my backer than maybe I would have for myself.

Ok so you'll try hard but will I win anything?

I might not be one of favs to win it but here is my record over the last 2 years:

In 2006 I was fortunate enough to come through one of the hardest groups. I lost a close match to Danny Harriman 100-98, but knocked Archer out in the final group match. In the knockout stages I also beat foldes before losing to Mike Davis, I finished 9th.

In 2007 I prepared badly but was still fortunate to again come through a very tough group. I bet Dennis Hatch, Jon Smith, before snatching defeat from the jaws of victory against Thomas Engert (missed a ball in the side at 120-60 in front race to 150). I had 6 runs over 50 in match conditions and I finshed 17th.

Please PM me if you are interested or have any further questions. I have until the weekend to sort everything out.

Thanks for your time

Thanks mate, I'm still waiting fora reply from work also.

Had some questions regarding what was required, I guess I was looking for around $1500 for entry and hotel, any winnings would of course go 1st to cover backers losses and split any profits.

Cheers for questions

I would certainly contribute to a gang bang. No, wait.

I can be counted on for some $ if we can get together, AZB.:wave2:

BUMP :D

Hey TheOne, congrats on getting your spot buddy, it's definitely great to hear that someone from the UK is in there :), nice one, although I'll be aiming for my spot next year hopefuly :)

Unfortunateoly I'm in the same situation financially, but it may be worth while posting up on Pro 9 and asking the guys on there if any of them would be willing to chip in 20 quid or something to help :)

I wish you the very best of luck in getting the bankroll raised, as it's definitely not easy to raise any kind of decent bankroll, especially in the UK :)

Craig, you need to start playing poker to fund your pool career. Just kidding ;)

Bump this up, the One is a force to be reckoned with in 14.1. I hope someone will take this offer and fund him to play. I'm so short of jellybeans I can't help but if we ever meet, at least a few beers are on me :p

There is a way to do this, FWIW.

If every member to this forum would agree to donate one dollar, maybe in a set-up PayPal account called "New Jersey 14.1 Fund" or words to that effect, it just might be possible for you to accumulate enough monies to get to the States.

If you set up the PayPal account, I will make the first donation of one dollar. I know this sounds crazy, but if every member could afford that one dollar, you just might get to New Jersey courtesy of AzBilliards membership.

So you have my offer of one dollar, as soon as you provide a link.

Sounds like a good idea JAM :), nice one :)

Back to the headstring :D

Willie

The concept could actually work if the members could find it in themselves to each donate one single dollar.

Of course, those who desire could donate more than one dollar.

This is how a member was sent to the U.S. Open via donations.

I think this forum membership is big enough that if everybody could donate one dollar or more, whatever is comfortable, it could work. :)

I would donate at least $10, and my offer of $100 still stands. I remember John Schmidt was backed by a group of people that way, right? About 10 of them united their hundreds.

Hi guys (and gals),

Thanks for all the replies but for some reason this doesnt feel right, as generous as it is!

I recently bought a flat in London, this may has made me temp cash poor but I feel I'm still in a fairly comfortable positon financially. My aim wasn't for the kind people of AZ to club together (there are far more deserving young players on here), it was to see if a backer wanted to to a gamble on making some money on me in NJ. The reality is this probably wasn't a great bet given my past two performances and the prize money on offer.

I also have a limited number of vacation days left at work so this is also an issue. In addition I have until tomorrow to pay my entry.

My feeling is that I've had a great time playing in this event over the last two years but the planets didn't quite align for me this time around for want of a better phrase!

Maybe I should sit this year out and let somebody else enjoy this great event. I know Jimmy and Steve L will be there and I'll still be able to cheer those guys on.

Thanks again

I agree with you wholeheartedly on that Jam, as I too would be happy to donate $20 if it could help give a player a decent chance, especially since I've not had many chances in my life and probably never will have anymore chances, due to my location, and so I would rather be able to help in some way, to give someone else the oppertunity that I'll never have :)

It's crazy that you have to have the entrance fee in so soon, but if it's any help, I would happily donate $20 :)

I really hope that you can get the oppertunity to compete this year, good lucky buddy :)

Willie

Craig, that's a sound decision. Keep shooting and drive them nuts next year. You shoot 14.1 well enough to make it high enough I'm sure.

I would be good for a hundo. If you were invited, you have to play. I know I will be there watching.
