World Straight Pool Updates from New Jersey

As time goes on, I am having a harder and harder time understanding the choice of names for Dragon Promotions. I get the Charlie is Asian so he's into dragons stuff...but where does the promotions part come into play?

What exactly do they "promote"?

I get it that they hold events...but how do they promote them? Does posting a occasional flyer and sporatic threads on AZB make you a force to be reckoned with in the world of pool?

Does ANYONE outside of relatives of the players and a portion of the AZB membership even KNOW that the world's best 14.1 players are gathered to play an event?

No live stream (a no-brainer in today's plugged-in world), no live updates (a trivial effort)...

Should DP be renamed: "Dragon Super Secret Pool Players Guild"? BTW, does anyone know the secret handshake?

I'll repeat the sentiment expressed above:

WTF
Without the secret knock you can't get updates...

When I returned to my room at 2 AM, only Harriman/Barouty was still in progress, with Barouty tryng to stage a comeback after trailing about 80-0. Harriman led 124 - 79 when I left, and I've read this morning that he held on.

Would have posted this last night, but the forum was down. Here's what I recall from the 10:00 session,

Ouschan Vs. Babica
Jasmin threw a masterpiece at Babica, running about 50 in the early part of the match, and tacking on an elegant 63, and she won 150-10.

Jentsch vs Facquet
The youngster jumped on Facquet early, and Jentsch won it quite comfortably.

Hopkins vs Schmidt
Allen got off to a good start and led early. They went back and forth and it was still close at 100, but Schmidt, still in search of hi stop form, pulled away decisively in the late stages.

Souquet vs Stepanov
Ralf's 121 and out turned this one into a massacre. Nice bounceback after being hit wit 150 and out by Hohmann in his previous match!

Lipsky vs Chavez
Good match up to 100, at which point the score was about even, but Chavez pulled away late with fine play. Amendment: seems that when Steve's score showed 99, it actually denoted -1, so this match was not close, as I had first thought.

Ortmann vs Sigel
Mike struggled in this one and was 30-50 balls behind for most of the way. Ortmann was solid, but still isn't playing his best, but he still prevailed with relative ease.

See vs Hundal
Very solid stuff from See, last year's runner up, ensured a realtively comfortable win against Hundal, who did himself fairly proud this week given his minimal straight pool background. See is playing the table nicely, and still lurks as a cinderellla story against the titans this week.

Well, that's what I can remember.

As for the event, Immonen and Feijen have probably been the two most consistently excellent players, though Immonen has probably been best so far. Though 9-0, the shine came off of VanDenBerg in the evening session, as he played quite poorly against Babica. Nikc had played very welll up to that point of the event.

Today should be fun.

SJM,

Thanks for the great reporting... one correction - my "99" on that scoreboard for awhile was really a minus one. I lost 150-2 to Ignacio. :)

For a second you had me convinced I did better than I thought!

Thanks again for the reporting and it was great sweating some matches with you.

Oops, I guess my look at the scoreboard was unrevelaing on this occasion. I did, however, catch Chavez playng his last fifty and he was impressive.

Proud of you for your fine play this week, Steve. You are an exceptional 14.1 player, and it really showed.

Souquet vs Hohman round of 32. Winner goes to round of 16. Loser goes to losers side and has to play at 10 pm. Ralf opens with a run of 47. Thorsten runs 150 and out.

Sigel wins his losers side match 150-52. Duel defeats Lipsky. Duel missed an easy shot. Lipsky gets to the table, makes a ball but draws back into the side pocket. Duel runs 97. Later, Lipsky beats Archer in a close one. I think it was 150 to 136. Hopkins defeats Robles in a close match. At 118 Robles scratches 3 times.

Right on, SJM!!!

Steve did a great job this week and he should be proud of all of his victories as well as the fighting spirit he displayed in the matches that didn't go his way. I'm sure Steve has many lessons that he can pass along to us over in the SP Forum.

Are the other 8 players playing now? or is this it?

Sorry, work has gotten in my way of catching the updates today.

BTW, does anyone know the name of the guy making the announcements. He looked familiar to me for some reason. I'm referring to the short blond-haired younger guy.

I can't get here til about 7 or 8 tonight, I assume there will be plenty of pool going on for the night, right??

Thanks for the updates!
