Are you from Taiwan/Chinese-Taipei? What happened to Fong Pang-Chao? Is he still active and still the coach for the Chinese?
No, I'm just a fan. Nobody was cheering for him over there so I decided I would.

Anybody want to make a sweat bet on the finals? I'll take WU and give up some odds. PM me if your interested. Thanks

Commentary has never bothered me before but this Chuck guy is infuriating me. He is insulting the players for making mistakes when there are actually playing good shots of the only paths available to them. If I were one of the players I would berate him if I heard this. The other commentator Anthony is not much better.

Yes, it's a scrappy high pressure game and they are missing a few, but these commentators are saying they are playing wrong shots when they are actually playing the correct shots. Extremely rude and ignorant and an insult to pool fans.

Does anyone have the contact details to complain about this?

As I typed this Chuck just mocked Darren by saying "unbelievable". grrrrr

Colin, as well as the rest of you. Visit the Chat Room on AZ for the finals. Several of us had a great time watching the match and "chatting" live..

11-9 Daz wins.

A tough game. A lot of good safeties and kicking which led to a very tense match and quite a few tentative misses. Was just one of those games where balls came out awkward and the tension got both players sweating.

Worst I have ever heard bar none.

For the first time in my life I put a pool match on mute because it was pissing me off. Every time I thought they couldn't say anything less informed or insightful they proved me wrong. What really tilted me was how pompous that tool bag Chuck is. Brutal.

Something funny happened though.....as I am watching it muted a graphic comes up saying Jay Helfert is in the box. I think "Thank God. Someone finally pulled their head out and did the right thing." So I turn the audio back on and it is the same two stooges. I got pump faked by a bad overlay. So I muted it again till the final game and it had only gotten worse.

Thank God I'm not the only one, my cable tv provide espn asia and these two commentator "made my day" for the whole Guinness Tour broadcast.
I'm considering muting the tv tommorow :D

Ok. Whoever the white dude is commentating this SUCKS.

Example 1:
White dude: "Oh he missed that shot he didnt take enough time"

Other dude: "He pushed"

White dude: Says something dumb

Example 2:

Other dude: "What many considered the favorite SVB is out of the tournament."

White dude: "I never bought into that . He is a young guy. Wu has been there and done that. Consistency is the key here"

Shane is 25 Wu is like 17 or 18

This guy has set a new low in the commentating world. Some of TAR's stuff is bad but that was cause the guy on the mic was drunk not stupid.

Now you guys has experienced the stupidity we have to go through when watching pool matches on tv here in asia. :D

I've tried searching the net for their email addresses at ESPN to complain but didn't find any. Both of them know nuts about pool. Even Anthony admitted not knowing anything about the game since he doesn't play it. I remember Anthony using the phrase "nothing but net" when a player pots a ball. Guess he was covering too much basketball games

commentators is that what they call them ???????? Thought they was very disrespectfull towards the players,,They should be fired,,,,,,,,

Jay!! Geez-Louise guy, what happened to the hard-hitting, straight talking, funny, insightful, gutsy, never-run-out-of anything to say, ....... "your MAN in Manila"? :(

<<<wondering where the Jay Helfert that we all love went

I was doing commentary for the Appleton-Feijen Semifinal match. It was on ESPN Star Asia for a few countries and on ABS-CBN for the Philippines. Edwin, you could have watched it here on Studio 23. Channel 17 on local cable systems. Many of my friends over here did get to see this version of the telecasts. Why they are using guys, sitting in a room one thousand miles away watching TV monitors, to do commentary is beyond me. Must be easier for them and maybe more cost effective.

I have worked with Chuck Shreiner in the past and Anthony Suntay. Chuck and I worked on several shows together and he consistently called me "PAT" in the booth, even after I wrote my name on a piece of paper and placed it in front of him. A bit disrepsectful and very unprofessional. Otherwise he isn't a bad guy, and is actually a good "com" for sports like basketball which he knows best. Anthony is a pro, much like Mitch Laurence here in the USA. He is smooth and articulate. He knows when to talk and when to listen. He can do a great interview and opening and closing summaries. I have a lot of respect for his abilities.

The match was BORING, the slowest match I ever worked. A great example of why a shot clock should be used, particularly for televised matches. Three and a half hours to play a Race To Eleven is waaayyy too long. Neils looked like he forgot how to play, missing ball after ball. Easy shots no less. It must have been embarassing for him. I like Neils a lot and he is a tremendous player, but something was wrong with him in this match. I've never seen him play this poorly, even when he first came to America. I felt bad for him just watching, but I had to do my job and call it the way I saw it. Poor play by a good player, who was devastating in his previous matches to reach the Semis.

It all got to Darren too, who had troubles of his own. He failed time and time again to get out with open racks, getting out of line and being forced to play safe. It became a match of endless safety battles, with both players examining shots for long periods of time before shooting. This sloowww pace continued game after game. In the other semifinal, the standard of play was also only fair. The pro Pulpul crowd got to Wu and he didn't have his usual superior skills working. He did do enough to win and hopefully today we get a good final. If only you could have seen Wu in his matches with Shane and Mika. The guy is an awesome talent, definitely one of the best in the game.

I got beaten down black and blue in the chat room when I shared my sentiments about the 2 semifinal matches which mirrors yours Jay.

Revenge is best served cold, watch out JB, Joey, Rossaroni, Rubyron, and Roy! I'm a bit sober now!!! :p

Demosthenes "Plong-Plong" Pulpul is leading Niels Feijen, 2 games to 1 in the battle for 3rd place.
