worst case of sandbagging you have seen

Ok, today we had a make up day for our APA 9ball league, and in the second match we put up a girl who is a PURE APA 1 she can barely make ball in hand, but she does try and shows up every week and everything.

Well the other team puts up a guy who is a SL 7 and everyone knows he shoots pretty good. well right off the bat he is just banging balls, even ball in hand he would miss, and he miscue's 3 times, would break and run to the 9ball and miss a easy shot. well needless to say, the match took over a hour, and lasted 27 innings. And finally when he knew it would take forever for the girl to win, he started to run some balls, and ended up winning 55-9.

I mean is this what the APA is comming too?

I'm a 6 in our APA 9 ball league. Im amung the the top 10 highest ranked in the league.I have too much pride to sandbag. I dont care if it helps the team or not...I dont pay my lil 20 bucks a year and 5 bucks everytime I play jsut to lose. Dogging shots does not improve my game!

I played APA once and went to Nationals. I was a 7 and played a 5 and he came out of the gate, running racks! I can't remember what I had to give him, but it was ridiculous. I eventually squeaked by and beat him, but a 5 is not supposed to be able to run multiple racks!!!

I quit APA because of sandbagging and because as a 7 no one really wants you on a team because you overload them. The best spot to be is a good 4 or 5 in APA.

It's almost as if the APA rewards sandbaggers. Those that sandbag have better odds when they get to the big tournament. The sound of that kind of invironment makes me grit my teeth in annoyance! BCA ALL THE WAY BABY!!

Holly!

How ya doin', babe? Haven't heard from you in ages. You and Kristi still a team? Still taking everyone's dough? Hope you are both well and still playing great.

I don't care if it's golf, bowling, pool, or whatever. If it's handicapped you can be rewarded for not playing any better then you have to. Quit the league or quit yer beachin.

Cajun,

I hear ya, i am a SL 5 in 9ball and while i am just average, and could play alot better, but i am very inconsistent. Plus i tend to rack up alot of innings, even though i dont try to. But i always give 100% and want to win, i dont care if i get moved up. But obviously if i became more consistent and dropped some innings i would easily be a SL 6.

Rackmsuckr, i feel your pain, i hear stories of people going to vegas or nationals and getting smoked by people who are 3's 4's and 5's.

But what happends alot of times is you get big city's with HUGE ASS leagues with people who probably play like a 7,8 or 9 and they end up being a 4 or 5 because they get beaten so often, and play such a vast assortment of people.

this is a classic example. A team from my city went to some big tournament in Canada last winter to play 8ball, well in one match the teams big gun who is a SL 7, he puts himself up against a girl who is a SL3, well she proceeds to break and run down the 8ball which no coaching, but miss's the 8ball, and he runs out the rack, and basically for the rest of the match he was having to run out every rack, just to not let her get to the table. And yes he did end up winning. But its like how in the hell should a SL3 being running racks of 8ball.

Sands Reno usppa. He was ranked at 53. He seemed very embarrassed to play me even, and was obviously trying to give me shots. He's now a 159.

Does APA 9ball go fron 1-9? I have only played APA 8ball which I am a 7 and feel the same way as the people above. Sandbagging pool does nothing for your game but waste the $6 per night. Just like paying table time you better get all the "good" practice you can out of your money or you are wasting your practice time and money.

Linda- I feel you pain as well. I went to the APA 8ball national team tourney this year and our guy 4 was playing a team from New York City's girl 3. The three ran out from our guys break with perfect position and then ran out the second in 1 inning. Tough to determine match ups down there if they are doing that, don't think I would have even put my 5 up against her for sure. Oh well it was a fun trip.

Sounds like there are a few girl 3's that can run racks! lol While the APA encourages beginners, the money brings the higher skilled players. Somewhere in the middle, there begins a disconnect, where it becomes very profitable to slow it down - set up balls, take extra innings while actually playing safe, etc., just to stretch it out and lower your rating.

I believe a 7 is the highest in 8-ball, while a 9 is the highest ranking in 9-ball.

Holly, yes I and my husband made the IPT! We are just thrilled. It's a shame you don't play anymore. You and Kristi would have been excellent choices as well.

Yes it is thats why I'm in no handicap VNEA

In a TAP Titleholder a year or so ago, we played a very good S/L 4 player...other teams had complained that he was underated. When we put him up, the other team put up a female S/L 2. She beat our S/L 4 2-0 with 4 misses total, including a couple of extremely tough shots and break-outs. Later in the match, she was coaching an S/L 6 even though they had another S/L 6 on the team.........

Honestly...what advice can a true S/L 2 give an S/L 6 or 7?

Bama,

Well i guess after that, she could probably give us all lessions lol.

But yes i know what you mean and i think in any normal APA league a true SL1 or 2 is someone who basically just bangs balls around, and can normally only make a ball when its straight in, or ball in hand.

But i think after this session of 9ball, i am just going to play 8ball.

dave

WORST sandbagging ever witnessed.

Any night of APA pool league played. I played one sesion and will never partake in such a foolish game of ducking to achive a low handicap. Whats the point of showing up and playing bad on purpose. My 2 cents.

The APA has already been like that for a long time now. There are 3's and 4's that can run racks on 9 footers. Nearly every team sandbags. Everyone realizes that everyone does it, and they only way to compete with a chance is to sandbag themselves. It's gotten so ridiculous, that people don't even complain about it that often, it's like the norm now.

Okay, even if you are the most honest participant in your league and your rating is exactly where it should be.You go to the big tournament in Vegas and you play better than you normally play,YOU STILL DONT GET REWARDED,because the tournament directors and everybody else will think you are nothing but a sandbagger who should have been rated higher all along!! It's a lose lose situation

Yep Dave, an S/L 2 should just be able to point the cue in the right direction. These types of things do put a bad taste in your mouth, but we all know some folks revel in the art of hustlin and want to hold their S/L down. I want to play my best...if I can't win at a certain S/L, it will take care of itself. A problem with folks sandbagging is that while it keeps their S/L down, it artificially makes other folks S/L go up before they are ready.

I am also amazed when I see an S/L 4 struggle through a match then jump on an S/L 7 heads up for $50-100/set.....happens around here a lot...
