Worst Nicknames

I have several NickNames given my by my Father. Can not say them in PUBLIC or Posted as I would get Booted.........

Joe "the meatman" Balsis would have to be on anyone's worst nicknames list. Yes, his family was in the meat business, but it's still a terrible nickname. Another BCA Hall of Famer whose nickname I was never too keen on is Ray "cool cat" Martin.

On the other hand, two nicknames I've always liked a lot are Shannon "the cannon" Daulton and Larry "Boston Shorty" Johnson.

Thanks for pointing out the 'Cool Cat' SJM- If i had remembered that im sure it would have knocked 'The Pearl' off my list. (What Earl Isn't "The Pearl"?) Even 'The Mighty Earl' is tons better.

It is soooooooooooooo dated. Maynard G Krebs laughs at that Nickname. This is how dated it is-When i was in third or fourth grade (1956 or so), my best buddy and I decided to form a 'club' like we'd seen kids do on TV. The name we chose - 'The Cool Cats Club'

How about old timer Bill "the chicken man" Dunsmore of Massachussetts?

Actually, I have no idea how he got that nickname. If anyone out there knows, please share.

I don't know for sure but i always thought he looked like some kinda bird. BTW-He is livin in Florida. I saw him the last two times i was at Capones and he seems in fine shape.

Speaking of nicknames

worst USA nickname "Corey Deuel the Prince of Pool" although at least it rhymes

Ya know? Some nicknames are even getting recycled. The original "Prince of Pool" was LArry Liscotti. For that matta, Mika ain't the original 'Iceman' either (Larry Hubbart is). So, not only is the 'Prince of Pool (puke!) a goofy nickname, it isn't even original.

Eric >otherwise known as Eric

Earl "The Pearl" Shannon "The Cannon"

If either was named Hunt things could have gotten ugly.

Bill's a nice guy, Nostroke. He was a fixture of northeastern pool for many years. Also, he was the runnerup in the collegiate championships in 1969. He kind of picked the wrong year to try to win it, as some guy named Varner at Purdue University was a pretty straight-shooting collegian back then.

Your kiddin- 1969? I thought Varner was younger and BD older-Of course i guess u can go to college late. I knew Varner won it twice and later i believe Max E duplicated that. (told to me by Kid Vicious)

We used to have a guy who went by the name of John "CORNFLAKES" Hennigan in town, till he quit pool to play pro poker.

It sounded better when people never said the CORN part, and just called him FLAKES.

SUPERSTAR

Is he doing well playing poker? I saw the guy beat some real good players playing back-pocket 9-ball. I only saw him play a handful of times, but each time I did see him play, he was in action playing back-pocket 9-ball, and each time he was winning.

That's one of the better nicknames if you ask me. The ones that I don't really care for, due to a lack of any sort of originality, are the ones that rhyme with a players name. I don't know if there's ever been a sport that didn't have an "Earl 'The Pearl'" in it, has there? Shannon "The Cannon"? Who racked their brain to come up with that original idea? That's it! Enough bad nicknames. I'm going to sleep. :D

Troy Frank "Boy Toy" Do they still call him that?
I always felt like Troy must cringe inside whenever
they announce that name before his matches.

I have never heard Scott Smith use that nickname when introducing Troy Frank. Thank goodness.

I've heard him announced with that nickname several
times between 2000-2004.
