Played in a tourney at the pool hall across town last night, lost 5-4 in the first match. Played average and had a headache. Worked 12+ hours and took an hour and a half to get there in the taxi.
Next game, I think to myself that I made the effort to come, and was matched up with my friend (who I’d say is better than me), and think “let’s go” - 100% all in. Break and run the rack to the 9, feel the confidence and speed in me, and then I go and dog the thing… didn’t miss by 6” but it’s not a shot you should ever miss… Playing on new Rasson Wolf tables, less than a month old. They’re not played in like the store I usually play at. Tighter than a nun, and the rails like trampolines.
Laughed it off, blamed the table for my ineptitude, and had a good game after that, came out of it 5-4. Made a nice bank with position from the 7 to get out on the hill. I think this time last year, I’d have complete lost my head and gone down 5-0.
Lost the next game 5-4 to a strong player who won the city monthly tourney the month prior to yuan8 open. But still happy to play with and watch that group of players.
Sometimes the wheels come off, and part of this game is trying to fix the car while you’re driving it.
