Would a table ruin in an non-air-conditioned room?

The only place for an 8ft table is in the enclosed garage that doesn't have air conditioning. It gets around 90-100 degrees with 80%+ humidity here during the summer. I can put up a fan and a window a/c unit if I'm in there playing..

I know playing quality will be compromised somewhat, but will the hot air and humidity just ruin the cloth and rails?

My brother has a table and I can get it for free. Just looking for something to practice on.

at least get a dehumidifier id say

What brand table? If it's an 8' Valley it will last just about forever in a closed garage. No matter what it is you got it for the price of moving it. so if it last 2 or three years your way ahead. Johnnyt

PS: If the table is worth it A/C window units are pretty cheap now.

IDK on the brand, my brother bought it years ago and might've spent 1500-2000 for it. It plays okay. He moved out of the country for work and the table is just sitting at a cousin's house. My work schedule is pretty busy, so I could go a whole week without having time to play. I don't think I'm willing to run a/c in the garage around the clock just to preserve the table.

^^^ This ^^^

I have a 5000 BTU window A/C unit in each of my children's bedrooms (about 14x20 feet per room), and I could probably store meat in there if I wanted to

Spend a few bucks on some insulation (if the garage doesn't already have it), and you could have a nice little spot...

I agree. Johnnyt

I have my Olhausen in my rec room, no air or heat either one. It's below ground level on one side and doesn't get too hot or cold. I run a fan this time of year and haven't had any noticeable problems but you may want to put in a window ac and some insulation.

It's the humidity that can cause most damage to a pool table. I will play different depending what the humidity/dew point is at that time of day. It's a good thing IMO. After playing on your for a few weeks you will adjust to any strange table in minutes. Johnnyt

I can't specifically answer your question, but when I was making cues I liked to keep my humidity level between 30% and 60%. This level is easily obtained with an air conditioner.

you can buy an window unit for 100 bucks. plug it into a timer to only come on for the hottest hours of the day.
you can buy units with an economy feature, where they will run for 5 minutes and then shut off for 5 minutes. This plus a timer won't kill your electric bill.

it may not ruin the table, but where ya gonna keep your cues?

As long as it's on a solid concrete floor, and properly leveled, the sheer weight of the slate will prevent the frame of the table from warping.

The life of the bumpers will be shortened by heat- the silicone in the synthetic rubber compounds will dry out, and the rails will harden.
Gradually.
Over years of time.

As JohnnyT mentioned, the felt will be affected RIGHT NOW! TODAY!
It's going to change it's speed with every atmospheric fluctuation.

But, as JohnnyT also mentioned, that will teach you to adjust to different tables.

A dehumidifier will cost you as much electricity to run as an air conditioner.

If you have a metal or fiberglass panel garage door, lay your hand on it from the inside when the sun is shining. It'll feel like a solar heating panel.
Cut some 1" thick styrofoam insulation panels and attach them . You'll feel the difference!

Long story short? Having a table is better than not having a table. Free tables rock!
