I am sure one is probably somehow better than the other, but the user won't notice any measurable difference. I take that back. If you get new slate, there will be a difference, in the bank account...
 
Only slightly, DCP. Italian slate is the best, but Brazil is also a major and credible exporter of high quality slate. I'd say that, unless you have an abnormally thin slate, upgrading your table to Italian slate is unimportant.
 
Well I made the mistake of making my table PERFECTLY level!

I got used to hitting *very* slow shots. Then I would go play in a tournament on a not so level table, shoot a very slow shot, then watch the cue ball curve around and miss the object ball.

I no longer keep my table perfectly level...
