Would Pool Horse keep your TV attn?

In my younger years I enjoyed playing Horse on the pool table. 3 or 4 guys and there were no trick shots, just stroke shots, some people might call some gaff shots.

Like putting the cueball on the center diamond froze and the object ball on the opposite end froze to center diamond and cutting in either pocket. Or a Larry Nevel type power draw that he does where he makes the frozen ball jacked up and comes around 3 rails to make the other one.

What kind of rules would you lay out for this game, and would you watch it on TV?

2 balls maximum on table for your shot and if it was say a stroke shot where you were going to play 5 rails shape, you had to use a piece of chalk to draw a circle that your opponent would stop the cue ball in to make it a valid shot. No repeating the same shot in the game.

Last thing. What shot would you shoot if you draw the first spot in a 4 person game. Would you use the basic shot to see if you can get a quick letter on someone, like a spot shot, hoping 1 out of 4 rattles it.

I think what you're describing actually are trick shots, just easier than what we see on trick shot magic... and those guys are only given 2 tries.

The major difference would be, trick shot magic is a bit scripted in that everyone is notified of the shots weeks or months in advance so they can practice is. True horse where there's no practice would be quite challenging.

As for TV viewership, I don't think it would hold attention any better than trick shot magic, and probably worse because the shots couldn't be as weird or difficult.

I disagree - I think it has potential.

I have talked about this many times over the years.

It is not the pool or the pool shots that creates the action or the drama.

It is the situation (created by the director) that creates the tension.

Properly done, this could be an inexpensive way to create a show that could get the juices going - but it has to be DONE RIGHT!!

TV shows are not REAL!!! Thety are shows.

I have talked about something similar with people many times over the last 20 years.
Players, watchers, bangers, champions.
{ Not a Horse style format, but pre set shots. }
I have always thought it would be a great show {only shots that come up in games } no coin tubes or paper sacks etc.
Alas, very few people ever showed any interest at all.
I think it would be a great learning experience , to see shots that almost always get played safe on, to watch people make them.
I like the idea of a show that has 2 to 4 players each week and they take turns at x amount of shots.
Pocketing the ball is number one, scratches don't count and no extra rails etc.
1 point for each shot made.
I realize there would be a time constraint at least at first because it would be a half hour show.
They could just show the best shots on tv and the rest you could watch on their website.
At the end of 3 months have a playoff and then at the end of the year have the four playoff winners play for a grand prize.
If the show doesn't do well, there would not be much, but if it took off like Pawn Stars or Swamp People, they might be playing for pretty nice prizes.
The shots could change every week but they would all be picked from a group of a couple of hundred that everyone could see before hand and practice.
That way even people who were not on the show could try it if they wanted.
I really hope you, or someone with clout, can get people interested.
