Would this bother you

Just for the sake of semantics, this was an APA match I played last night against another 6. Here's what happened.
I had two balls and the eight and he was on the eight. He played it for the side and left it hanging with about a balls width. I played my first ball just past the eight in the side and my remaining shot was a length of the table, straight in shot which are not always my forte. Plus the eight is just dangling there so it's a do or die shot. I hit it perfect and stopped the cue ball dead in it's tracks for a straight in shot at the hanging 8. Before I could get over to shoot the 8 he swiped at it with his stick, not allowing me to finish out the rack. I don't think I would have minded if he just said, don't worry about it, but it was the way he knocked the 8 away.

Maybe it's just me but if someone makes a nice out I let them finish the rack and tell them it was nice out. It just seemed childish and needed to vent.

Thanks,
Dave

Wouldn't bother me at all. He is acknowledging your ability to make the shot. Happens all the time.

You're being petty. Accept the victory graciously. Let the man act as he wants. Only thing worse than a poor loser is a winner who fuels the fire.

Thanks for the reply and I agree with that most of the time. I guess I could have done a better job illustrating what happened but it really wasn't an acknowledgement. He was just being pissy and knocked the 8 around the table muttering to himself. Just rubbed me the wrong way. I suppose had he said, "you don't have to shoot it", there would have been no bad feelings.

Thanks,
Dave

In that case I would be laughing to myself that he is getting pissed off over it.

I didn't say anything to him so there was no fuel to the fire. It just rubbed me the wrong way but call me petty if you want.

If you can get the competition muttering and knocking balls around then you've done well ... enjoy it, I know I do ! And, there is no way I would let any of my opponents rub me ...

I hear you. It actually caused me to elevate my game which I'm glad but I just thought it was childish. I realize it's hard to describe what happened but even his own teammates thought it was wrong.

Thanks,

I like that much more than sharking moves. I really hate it when they grab the rack and come right over to the shot and if by some chance you missed the shot, he'd hand you the rack. If someone indicates to me in any way that they think the game is over, I usually won't shoot the ball. if they then want me to shoot the ball, I expect them to shut up and sit down while I go through my 5 minute pre-shot routine, LOL.

One more thing, Dave, this guy was probably just mad at himself, not at you. He just needed to vent his frustrations. Let's face it, pool does not lend itself well to venting anger or frustration. There is very little physical activity involved and no where for all the frustration to go. Some people are just not as cool as people like you and me. LOL!!! Feel sorry for them not angered by them

Nope, but it woulda bothered me if I'd lost by hanging up
the 8. You're an APA 6, that means you've been around right?
This kinda stuff happens all the time..

peace

True enough Rick :-)

Thanks

anytime someone doesnt make me shoot the last ball or last 2 ball i kind of take it as a compliment.....like they know im not going to miss. Here if theres an easy shot left to win and you make the person shoot it.....its almost a sign of disrespect, like you think they can mess up the shot. Of course this is usually between people who know each other. Ive seen this move used as a sharking tactic too........say youve not been making someone shoot easy shots then all of a sudden you do.....it can get in their head. Or someone is really on a roll........rather than let them finish out you swipe the table with 3 or 4 balls to go.
I always chuckle a little to myself when it gets to that point, knowing ive gotten in someones head because they are trying to get in mine.

Usually when I see that it is between acquaintances and is regarded as a sign of respect, although I am pretty sure it is against the rules.

I don't see it too much amongst players who don't know each other well.

For his sake I hope he doesn't do that at a City Cup, he may get an unsporstmanlike conduct foul.

I wouldn't call you petty at all, I know exactly how you feel. Some people can concede a game with class and some can't.

Think of it this way... It's a lot better than the guy that slammed the remaining balls on the table only to have them bounce all over the bar and throw his whiskey glass across the room (something one of my APA opponents did after I had a nice out). People are going to express their anger from time to time. At least this was subtle.

I AGREE...

What ever happened to Pool Hall etiquette???...I especially find this to be a problem with the younger players in league competition today...they want to flip for the break...hey this is pocket billiards...learn to lag!...and along those lines, APA should get rid of slop play, and count fouls...in any event...the rack is not over until the eight ball is down...I've seen so called 'hangers', do just that...'hang'...you should always display courtesy to your opponent during a match...play fair, honest pool, follow your league rules, call for coach/ref on questionable shots to avoid disagreements, stay down and play your best game...nothing wrong with getting beat...just don't lose.

Your Avatar reminds me of an old saying, "Mean people suck, nice people swallow"

And some people can handle classless people with class and some can't.

*I'll take anger management for $200, Alex...

*The answer is , 'Prozac'....

* that would be "What does everyone need in the morning, " Alex !
