Would winner-break Nine Ball be more interesting if...

a player breaks from the final cue ball position after the nine ball is pocketed? Would this minimize the precision breaks?

I heard a long time ago that in Japan you only got the next break if you left the cue ball behind the line on the nine ball shot. I didn't hear whether you had to play it from position. Seems like a good way to do it but it's unlikely Matchroom will adopt it. ;)

Actually they do this in some events in Quebec and it's an interesting angle.

The format is winner break 'only' if the player making the money ball positions the CB above the head string. If they don't the break goes to the opponent. If they do make it above the head string they must break from where it lies.

It can add an element of difficulty to otherwise simplistic money ball shots, and rewards those who have a strong ability to control the CB.

I don't know if it's something I'd like to see on the professional circuit, but I'd rather not see winner break anyway, so my opinion is likely moot.

I played a 10 Ball ring game with Efren once where he had to break from where the cue ball ended up after he pocketed the 10 (if he didn't get the cue ball behind the head string the next player broke). He ran four racks and parked the cue ball right behind the head string on the last three.

So, what happens if the CB is felt 1" in front of the 1-ball position?

Does the breaking player get to smash the crap out of the rack !

What if, by miracle, the CB ends up touching the 1B, can the breaker just drive straight through the rack ??
