Thats Bob Frey on the left, and Tim Scruggs on the right!
I was lucky to catch them together at Bob's shop on thursday. I was picking up and dropping off some cue work with Bob, and there was Tim! I hade't seen Tim since 2007 when my old friend Mike Surber and I went to see Tim about a cue of Tim's that Mike had traded for. Its been over 2 years since I've seen Bob, although we have keep in touch by phone.
The stories were flying. Tim and Bob talking about their days together at Tim's old shop where they worked together for 8 years. Tim telling me about him and Danny building my 74' joss ( Tim did a lot of work on it ) .Thats where I first met Tim.
Tim is doing well, as is Bob. I planed to stay for about a 1/2 hour; that turned into 2 hours! What a great day with two great guys!
If you ever get a chance to talk to either one of them, do it! You wont find two nicer people and the knowledge they share is extraordinary!
Thanks to Bob and Tim for all they have done for me over theses many years.

Very cool! I remember going to Scruggs "office" years ago, driving up that windy and bumpy road. I thought, man, am I lost? :D

I have never met Bob Frey. His cues are very popular in our neck of the woods. Fat Wayne from Baltimore used to sell Frey sneaky petes. I think I have one in my closet. I'm going to have to dig it out now, after reading this thread. :)

Thanks for sharing your experience with two of the great ones.

thanks for the great story and picture of these two cuemaking legends.

have talked only twice ever with Mr. Frey (super nice), however, I did have a good number of conversations over the years with Tim. What a nice man and a really great sense of humor.

Without a doubt, my absolute favorite cues are from that shop.

thx,
brian kc

Great pic, Clay! Just remember that you said I could have your old JOSS one day w/ the fellini case. You do remember that, right? Don't tell me you've forgotten already. :)

I visited Tim and Mike around 2002 when a good friend of theirs took me to their shop. I bought a beautiful 4 point cue w/ 2 shafts after spending the day eating these crab cake sandwiches...playing pool on the front table and just hanging out. That was a fun experience with some great people. (Clay, do you remember George? He has like....100 Scrugg's cues and is good friends w/ Tim? He took me down. I used to play him at Champons in Shirlington all those years ago).
