I think something should also be said to put this type of thing in context. I don't necessarily have a "problem" with deals like savers being done, as I don't think that in most cases that it would effect the match that the fans will see or how hard that the players will play.

I realize that pro players have a very tough financial situation. So I can't say that I blame them for trying to guarantee a higher payout if they can, since any top player can beat any other top player in any single match.

But I think that people should be very careful before proclaiming publicly that their favorite player is holy and would never do such a thing.
 
Well - let's see: I pay for cable tv. I pay for Internet. If it showed up on one of those I might watch a little, even though I'm not a 1p fan.

When you make a deal with the other player that if the other guy wins, they will kick-back some of the prize winnings to the guy who lost, so that both players make a decent profit from the match.

In some cases, the loser could just miss the cut to get into the money, so this deal would assure that the loser would get something.

The case that I first mentioned involved a big difference in prize money between 1st and 2nd place. So the players make a deal so that that they split the prize money from 1st and 2nd place prizes added together, so they each are guaranteed a good payout regardless of who wins the match. (The losing player is "saved" from no payout or a much smaller payout).

You could be right in this instance. Dennis was traveling with Justin and Skyler at the time and took them under his wing, so to speak. There will always be exceptions and this may have been one of them.

Which is a fine point...just coz we know something happened does not mean we know why it happened.

And I am inclined to agree there is nothing wrong with savers, presuming they don't impact game play.

I would say straight and 1p (in that order...MUCH prefer straight). Maybe 8 ball. 9 and 10 bore me to tears playing, and are completely unwatchable for me. Just my opinion, of course.

I still probably wouldn't pay for it other than to go watch it live. Everything else manages to find advertisers and sponsors. They can find advertisers for lumberjack competitions....even strong man competitions.

I do not know, but these 2 players seem to be the top 1 pocket players (or gamblers) at the moment. They both (in recent times) beat the player who was considered to be the best 1 pocket player in the world.

So have they had any really big 1 pocket matches (against each other) in recent times, and if not, then why have they not?

Would it not be a really great match up for the fans to watch?

Would it not be a close match, with them playing even 1 pocket, in either an ahead set, or a long race?

Just curious why there have not been any talk about these 2 players matching up, and if I missed any news about it, then I am sorry I asked.

I would just love to see a great 1 pocket match between them.

Thanks for explaining that to me. Does this type of thing happen a lot in pro pool? I have done similar type of deals many times in the past. When going to a tournament with a road buddy, we would make a deal to spit all winnings no matter what. One time, I went 2 and out (lost my 1st 2 matches), and he won the entire tournament, and he split his winnings with me. Many other times, I have made a deal in the finals to split the entire payout of 1st and 2nd. It is harder to do when a 3rd party has one of us in the Calcutta though.

he tried to bet against himself with Ladbrokes of London mid match against Shaun Murphy in 2010 which was just one of two incidents he was involved in the other being match fixing allegations that ultimately led to suspension

He purposely lost certain racks in a match.... which others bet against him on. (you can bet on single games, etc. in snooker)

That's what he got banned and fined for. And the youtube video makes it quite clear what was going down.
