If you had a choice, would you rather play on a 5 or 3 man team BCA rules 8 Ball tournament?

This is an important questiion for me. I am trying to figure out weather to make the team event at The Windy City Open this year a 3 or a 5 man event.

I will give rep points in exchange for all answers. I appreciate the time you take to respond. Any additional feed back is also much appreciated.

3 man. It is easier to put a stronger 3 man team together than a 5 man team. Actually, in truth I am not much for team events. It is to much like a carnival game for me. Plus sometimes when it is an all women event it can get a little catty:D .

I would definately prefer a 3 man team for a couple of reasons.

It is a lot easier to get along with 2 other people than it is to get along with 4 other people.

It is a lot easier to find 2 other people at your skill level or a little better than it is to find 4 people like that.

Plus, you get to the table faster, less time to cool off.

LOL, that's why I hate playing women. I grew up playing the guys... I'd rather keep it that way. :p

Eydie, my vote goes for a 3 man event. Like the few have already said, it's much easier to put together a solid team and there's less down time. The few times I played on 5 person teams I hated it. Especially if I was the last one to play that night... what the heck good did it do for me to get there early & practice?? I sure as heck wasn't warmed up 3 or 4 hrs later when I finally got to play. ;)

Hi Eydie,

I like the 3 person team format the best. Usually, with 5 people, there is going to be 1 or 2 weaker people that others have to carry or bury in the lineup.

Also, if matching shirts are an issue, it is not as much expense for the sponsor. ;)

In fact, Mike is in Anacortes right now at a 3-man team tournament - and I have won with all 3 players in Scotch doubles tournaments, isn't that funny?

Hi Eydie,

I prefer a 5-man tournament. The BCA team event is my favorite out of the three major ones during the 10-day period. I enjoy the camaraderie, and I think 5-man teams strike the perfect balance between that and getting to play enough.

Specifically, 3-man teams (on two tables, anyway) means only one member of your team can watch the two matches. Part of the fun for me is watching my teammates play.

I like the 3 man tournament.
I think it puts more pressure on the whole team to play their best because if one guy is playing bad then the team could easily lose. Unlike a 5 man where one guy can be carried. I aslo think its funny how some responses have been about getting alone with more people which is not an issue with me, but I think I "get to know" the guys on a 3 man team much better.

How about 4? That's how we play our weekly Valley leagues. 16 games, each player plays every other player. If it's just for most points, it rarely goes 16 games anyway.

I agree with Shooter777

If I were running a league I would run 4 man teams. ( I have) ... I like the idea of having a tie at the end of the night and we must have a playoff match to determine tonights winner. I have a complete rules printout if you would like.

I'd have to agree with the majority. 3 man teams are the way to go. You play more, sit less. And it's a lot easier to get 3 people together than 5.

Good Luck with your event!!

I have given out to much rep today, so some of you will have to wait till tomorrow! Sorry!:(

Keep the votes coming! And thanks for your responses!

Two more advantages for 3 man teams

Eydie,

As a tournament director, you will undoubtedly get much more participation (more interest, easier to put together), which may result in more entry fees overall, and the matches will go faster with 3 man teams.

I like three man teams for many or the reasons already mentioned. One other consideration is travel arrangements and time off work are MUCH easier to deal with for three rather than five. Coming up with five can be a deal breaker.
